What is PENGUIN AND PANDA and what role do they play in Seo?

Hi guys,

Can you tell me what/who are Penguin and Panda and how do they matter in ranking of keywords?
All i heard is Penguin is updated,Panda is updated and so your Ranking is down.

They are Google updates to their algorithm intended to remove spam sites and sites that use blackhat methods.

For a few weeks after the first Penguin update came out, many sites were still reporting high position in Google search. Some weeks later, many of the same sites that used blackhat backlinking or spam methods had disappeared from search.

As for Panda, it's Google's way of preventing duplicate pages from ranking very high in search results. The algorithm tries to reduce the clutter associated with duplicate entries.

those are updates use it google for ranking new websites to first page and get others with low quality or low traffic to drop down
