Were you penalized by Google Panda or Penguin?

For awhile I was a professional (paid) writer on ehow and Hubpages before they got hit by the Panda updates. After that time, it was harder to earn money as neither site ranked well in search engines.

From what i understand, Panda tried to get rid of content farms while Penguin update was more about deranking sites that rely on mass (irrelevant) backlinks for authority.

Thankfully none of my blogs are suffering as a result of either update. And, Hubpages is slowly pulling itself back up in search engine rankings. So it's a decent place to earn.

Have you been penalized by these algorithms?

Google pushed my main website down the the fifth page, yet the first page on Google is full of spam and wordpress blogs and the site topping the list was last updated in 2010.

I've only been penalized for inactivity as I always leave me projects behind and just work for clients.

One of the ways i keep blogs updated is by making a post and saving to publish at a future date. When that date comes around, the post goes live. That way i can have one post a week or per day, depending on what I need, without ever visiting the site. And, yet it looks as if there is constant activity on the site. This is great for blogs that use ever-green articles (such as how-to's on a niche subject). But it might not work for a breaking news blog.

I also have been effected by the google penguin i had site named rugsandlighting.com which was hit by the penguin i was on the top of the Google but now all rankings are down to the 300th links. Although my site is still index in the google but the thing is that we had to suffer with the penalty. I am working again at the site and trying to recover from the penguin effects.

Were you getting mass backlinks by automated means? Some sites that were are now finding themselves knocked out of top spots on Google. It's not a penalty, just that many backlinks were discounted as spam and that affected the site's authority, so it slid in position.

Is there? I don't know. Actually, I've not found that to be true for my own blogs. Even now, i get a small amount of traffic on some blogs that I put up three years ago and have posted little content to since then. The traffic comes from Google's search engines and those sites do still earn Adsense money from clicks.

Well, before I closed my "internet marketing" blog (only tried to take up that niche), I let it stay for month. And I'm a bit surprised that it even get search engine visits after a few months of inactivity. It also giving my adsense account a few clicks.

It is sad that Google is penalizing content farms because I see them as legitimate contents. What I don’t like are the copycats that have duplicate contents just to show that the site has contents. But for content farms that spend for the written contents that they buy I guess that is unfair. Is this the reason why the content sites for submission has been dwindling?
