What would you do if your competitor was trying to sabotage your website by posting spam backlinks or doing bad SEO against your site? Is there some way to combat negative SEO like this?

Contact the website owners where your link is and try to get it removed. If that doesn't work, use the disavow tool from Google.

As suggested above, you need to contact the admin of those website and request if they can remove your links, the last option is disavow tool.. which is not guaranteed.. it is just a request..

If someone is spamming your site with thousands of backlinks, you will have many days of clean up even with the disavow tool
