How old is SEO?

SEO is not a new concept. Does anyone know when SEO/search engine optimization started? And, if possible, discuss some SEO techniques from back at the dawn of SEO and how things have changed.

Yes, SEO is very old. Back in the day it was just a matter of fact of just adding some tags into your site and ranking's would appear very quickly, as Google change there algorithm it get's harder each time.

not too old comparing to the first web page, to compare, PHP script is about 4 to 6 year older than SEO
