    What kind of adjustment was needed for the past Google updates? From what I know the SEO methods particularly the keywords and backlinks remain the same except for the under-the-table methods that they call black hat. If you are doing the SEO methods before then I guess you are still doing the same SEO methods until now which means there was no adjustment made. Am I correct on my assumption?

    Do old techniques get paced out as fast as the current changes? How do we know if there are changes in the algorithm?

    Internet marketers/bloggers adjust as Google changes the rules or they slide out of search engines and are replaced by others who will adapt to these new rules.

    Since Google Penguin update came out some time back, i'm constantly seeing articles with headlines such as 'Link Building Tips Since the Google Penguin Update'.

    Here's an example.

    Either these techniques are still applicable or the writer needed more material to flesh out the article. How frequent do SEO methods evolve?

    Maybe they are still applicable and haven't been affected by Penguin or Panda at all.
    Of course, you need to choose wisely before you do link building on a site.

    Linking from quality sources is still the best idea, rather than mass backlinking from unrelated sites. Though some people are claiming very good success backlinking from .gov/edu blogs, even ones not related to the content of their own sites.

    If you mean by evolve is the change of the algorithm of search engines, I guess they are changing it very often. There was a test done on a certain website that was on page 1 of the search list. After 30 minutes, the same search was repeated and the search list looked a bit different because the link to that test site was down by 2 positions. The test search was done every 30 minutes and the position of the link of that test site on the search list kept on changing.
