    Well, make sure you are unique and you don't copy other website. Make sure you have a title, description and keywords for each and every page of the directory.

    A link to your site would count only if it's possible for the search engines to 'read' or 'detect' the link. When submitting your site to a web directory, you'd want to make sure whether the link you get from the directory would be counted by the search engines. There are quite a few directories that give out links which are not counted by the search engines, i.e. they are not seo-friendly links.

    How do we know that the link that I submitted to a social marking site will be counted by search engines? I have read about posting the backlinks on some directory sites and I also have read that there are so many directory sites out there that are waiting for the posting of links. But again my question is how do I determine the proper directory sites to post my backlink? Is there an easy way?

    There are a number of web directory scripts and platforms out there from PHP Link Directory script to eSyndicate and a lot more. Too many to mention here really. And they all have their own pros and cons to each as well. There are some really old and popular directory scripts out there and there's some newer ones too. In my experience, the really older ones are usually spammed to death. But the newer link directory scripts aren't spammed as much simply because there aren't as many sites using them. One of these might be a better choice for you if you want an SEO friendly web directory site. Otherwise you will have to learn a language like PHP or Javascript or something yourself so that you can make your own SEO friendly web directory. If you don't want to do that then you can purchase one of the dedicated ones instead.
