    Most people use EzineArticles or GoArticles. Though I'm sure there are many lesser known article directories. If you are looking for a good place to syndicate your content to other site owners, you could try one of them out. But, I wouldn't put much faith into an article directory for backlinking.

    I am also looking around for sites that accept articles for payment. However, my need for article submission is not in a hurry because I am in the stage of researching. What I am looking for is a site that publishes short articles like 300 words to 500 words only and the earnings are by the networking among the members.
