I'm Google and I do what I want!

I can't believe there is not a thread about this yet, but is anyone as livid about the Hummingbird update as I am?
Did they finally just collectively agree they just had no idea wtf was going on with their algorhythm anymore & 86'ed 3/4 of the entire foundation which we've all been slaves to for ranking... might as well forget all that, now - we LITERALLY don't know what is going on...

Who experienced the worst slap in serps after Hummingbird has been in effect for about a month now?

I am lucky and survived on my service sites but my niche sites / CPA sites might as well be decomissioned at this point

Here is what google had to say, "Unlike Google’s Penguin and Panda updates to its existing algorithm, Hummingbird is a complete replacement. Google’s search chief Amit Singhal told Danny Sullivan that Hummingbird represents the first time since 2001 a Google algorithm has been so dramatically rewritten."

There are more changes to come and we can't assume what is going to happen in future, we can just guess and follow Google's official guidelines as well.

Google does these about face turns in search engine algorithm and it shakes up the internet and messes up everyone's search engine ranking. Very unfair but Google owns the game apparently so they do as they please.

You're not the first one to highlight that; Webmasters and marketers was thinking the same way when Google said that you must use schema.org to appear in In depth articles results.

The problem is that everyone, even us, still use Google search! And Google can claim that all these changes are to improve the user experience!

Well using schema is always a good idea but id be weary of even following their 'guidelines' which arent really guidelines in the traditional sense because the algorythm is going to change & they wont release any direct clue as to their intellectual property - so you can call them 'teases' instead; i think thats a better adjective. But ive noticed in talking with friends in my personal networking circle & with my own experience that doing things your own way but at the same time referencing these update teases google releases, is a better recipe for success.

Exhibit A: why am i still ranking articles using my outbound link as legitimate contextual + not linking to my url's but rather my youtube video on that topic which then itself has my url in it to the article / product i want to advertise... explain that to me within the 'guidelines' they say to do, and it makes absolutely zero sense, yet it works time and time again (tested as of today with $831.96 in click bank earnings just from a test run)

So be weary of doing exactly what they say.. by the time you got it right anyway, they would change it all over again, haha.

Thanks for telling us all about what type of linking is working for you at the moment. It's much appreciated.

As for Google, they have been broken for an awful long time now. However, you have to understand that it only matters for people searching for new things. Once someone has found what they are looking, Google is redundant. Now that I know about SEOClerks.com, I don't bother using Google to find it, I just go to it. So Google is only new activity - and this is the problem for Google. That means more and more activity is going on without them and they can see their lucrative advertising model going away.

If your business model relies on repeat purchases, the noise from Google is like a thunderstorm that has passed and is moving away. If your business model relies on a massive influx of new customers, well then you are in trouble.

Of course, if my understanding is correct, it does raise questions about the type of people searching Google right now - are they quality leads or highly questionable? Certainly, if someones searches "How to get my ex back", it is is probably because a new situation has happened in their life. However, if they are typing it in on a regular basis, it shows that there is an underlying problem in their life and they may not be a good fit for guidance on dealing with a breakup or any product relating to that niche.
