Using any other search engine doesn't deliver great results from what I have found. Google does seem to do it better than most. That is speaking searching only. Some of their other products like wave have been a fail.

There are some specialized search engines targeting college students and even cooking as well as news and many other subjects. Usually the specialized search engine only features results for a specific niche, not all niches like Google.

Assuming you have a quality site and I'm sure you do, it wouldn't be very hard to rank as long as you could get that search engine's attention. That's always the challenge with any search engine though.

RSS feeds are always a good thing to submit as it lets search engines gain access to your latest content via other sites. You can even create an RSS feed for a page on a static site. And, you can simply ping it to let search engines know when it's updated.

Actually, the RSS feed on a static site, would just be for one specific page. Though you could create an RSS feed fore multiple pages. Also, who's to say that a static site can't be updated on a regular basis? When i owned a static site, i updated the home page at least once a week if not more, with links to new pages, useful resources.

lol! I highly doubt it. Though Google is in our lives in every way, if you surf online at all. There's hardly a site you can visit without seeing Google ads. Though no Google ads on Facebook, right?
