    What is your policy for quoting sources?

    When creating forum or blog posts, what is your policy for quoting sources? Do you use a formal citation method, such as to include the author's name, website address or book source? Do you simply use the quotation marks code and link back to the page where you found the content? And, from a legal point of view, how important is it to properly cite your quotation sources?

    If I quote something from another site, I tend to leave a link back to where I got the info / quote so that others can see where it came from originally.

    You might have some trouble with other forum owners if they find out you are copying their posts. That could get you in some hot water legally.

    Well it depends on if the content is copyrighted or not. If it isn't copyrighted then sure but really, you won't be arrested for taking somebody's post really. However, if it is custom coded or designed and copyrighted and you tried to take it and use it yourself or sell it, that is a different story.

    Also with copying a copyrighted document from online to another site, I would worry about a DMCA take down which can be brought against your site/page.
