What's your first experience with research?

Do you have memories of the first time you ever conducted research, either in a library or online? What was the subject you were researching and what did you use the research material in, such as a book, article, school report, etc.

In the third grade, our teacher asked the class to research our family tree and so I conducted a geneology search by interviewing my parents/grandparents and other relatives and consulting our local library newspaper reference section to find stories and historical events related to my recent ancestors.

Mine was exactly the same. Luckily for me, my Great Aunt had published a book based on my father's side of the family, and my very distant cousin on my mother's side had researched their family tree for years. As a matter of fact, because of the family tree project, I had found out a fellow student of the same grade and class was my third cousin on my mother's side

I had lots of researches in the library when I was still in school. But maybe it's fitting to share my experience in joining an essay contesst conducted by a Japanese organization with attractive prizes. The theme is the benefit of computers to man. That was before the internet and the small computers. My research involves going to big companies with mainframe computers. I interviewed one manager and some supervisors in other companies. It was really hard work then because Google was not born yet. And although I did not win a major prize, I received a technical dictionary from the organization.

My first experience with research was while I newly entered the university and things were starting to work out. I was sent to do a research on the type of plants in my region. I did the research in the library and I enjoyed those moments learning something new.

I love doing research work. The first time I've done research work was in gradeschool it was about plants with medicinal properties which can be found in ones yard or garden. So first was to identify such a plant and then do research on that plant, which we did in the libraey. There wasn't any internet back then.
