Freelancers who can't meet deadlines

Have you ever hired a freelancer who was always perpetually late on deadlines but delivered consistently good work anyway. In that situation I would not be too strict on the deadline, unless it was very important, especially since the quality was so good.

If I hired someone like that and they could not deliver, then I would not bother hiring them again. What's the use of hiring someone who can't complete an assignment to the deadline you set?

I would not want to hire someone who can not meet deadlines. As a freelancer you must know that deadlines are very important.

A missed deadline would cost me money, especially if I was hiring someone to subcontract out work for another person.

If you thoroughly enjoyed their work and loved what they did for you, then I would most definitely try to find a compromise somewhere. It's hard to find the right person who meets your needs, and keeps you satisfied.

Even if you gave the person a deadline, but the date given was actually "X" days before the real deadline. You would then have your work on time ;)

If you find someone that's worth the effort, then I would be willing to work with it.

Deadlines are not really everything. If you get the work you wanted, that will be all that matters. So long as they are producing good results, maybe you could cut the person some slack.

And, maybe there is a valid reason they are always late with deadlines. For instance, if they are constantly disorganized or dealing with distractions that would explain the lateness. And, you could work with them to get things sorted out.
