    Are There Any Known Injuries Amongst Freelancers?

    You would probably not think of any injuries as a freelancer.. And I talk about personal injuries. Damage to your body. Most freelancers are working from the comfort of their own home, from their bed or an office.. Are there any risks of getting injured?

    There's something called RSI, which stands for repetitive strain injury. The most common RSI is carpal tunnel syndrome. Freelancers are obviously not the only ones facing these risks, but there's little to none discussions about RSI among freelancers which is the reason I bring this up to the table.

    As most of us are doing our work in the same pattern each and every day, and often having long work hours, it's very important to set aside some time for breaks and perhaps equally important to work ergonomic. A stress ball would be a good tool for loosen up your fingers. Another important thing to remember, even though I'm lousy at it myself, is to do some stretching during your breaks. Neck, arms, hands and shoulders are often tight and being in the same work position 8 hours a day will most likely harm you.

    Carpal tunnel is definitely a thing for most online marketers who are working 8+ hours a day. This is because we type all day Are There Any Known Injuries Amongst Freelancers?

    I've noticed that I'll have some back pains due to sitting funny on my couch while typing. I'll be in an unusual angel the my back isn't use to, whether it's laying down or just leaning over too far when typing. I'll probably need a backiotomy (not a real word, just fun to say) when I'm 60. I guess all I have to worry about then is to make enough money working online to pay for my robo back implant in 30 years Are There Any Known Injuries Amongst Freelancers?

    But yeah, carpal tunnel is definitely one thing we have to worry about. I broke my hand a few years ago so I'll probably start feeling it quicker than I normally should have, which I should probably start preparing for Are There Any Known Injuries Amongst Freelancers?

    I've always known about RSI but have never suffered from it. But I do try to live a somewhat active life as much as possible and do other things as much as possible so I'm not doing the same thing all the time. Sometimes though I can be working on something for days at a time if I'm determined to get it done and can be working long hours at the workstation before I even get up for a call of nature.

    The only issue I'm concerned about is eye damage all that staring at the screen can play havoc on your eyesight. That's something that comes up every now and then in discussion more than RSI or CTS but I must have excellent eyesight because I don't have or haven't ever had any issues like that and I've been staring into computer screens for about 20 years. It makes me wonder though what sort of effect it will have on my eyesight when I'm an OAP and if I'll be one of those OAPs with terrible eyesight because of all those years staring into the screen.

    But I'm sure by then, medical technology would have advanced so much that they'll be able to fit me up with a new pair of eyes on the NHS or something. As well as have more medicine or advancements that can heal things like RSI and CTS. Bring on the future!

    Hi as freelancer you do not have change to get any major injuries on spot. But my experience said people may getting injuries doing same for long in front of computer each and every day. And as per as I know most of the professional freelancer working more then 8-10 hours per day. And myself still working over 12 hours each day. And I got some problem like spine pain, headache, neck pain and sometimes my eyes becoming fuzzy.
    And at this moment it does not make me major problem or injuries but I am sure if I continue do work such way, in future those problem may become huge.

    Very interesting. Unfortunately I think that I am guilty as charged at this. I am a person who does not manage to keep an eye on the amount of strain I am suffering from from spending several hours every day typing. Sometimes my back hurts and my hands feel so tired. I also feel my eyes getting tired after some time. Yet I often just keep going, so by the end of the day I am often exhausted. Breaks are very important, but sometimes we get so busy we forget all about them. Trying to set a reasonable schedule might help too.

    As am I. Recently I've had pain in (or around) my collarbone but usually I often have strain feelings in my fingers and especially my arms and shoulders. That depends mostly on the long work hours and that I get caught up in the work. Proper breaks each day is something that never really existed for me and I'm starting to feel the consequences of it. Which was the reason for this topic. Even a "computer geek", freelancer or any other person who's working in front of the computer all day should give this a thought.

    It's very useful to have an 'excuse' to get up to move around the house or office or cafe, where ever you are working. For instance, you might get up on occasion to go to the kitchen for a glass of water, rather than keeping your water bottle at the desk. And, stepping outside to breathe fresh air is useful. Though really, that advice is easier for me to give than take. I'm not much of an outdoor person. Going outside in the heat tires me out, so I do less work. So it's not something I do too often, but others might enjoy it. Are There Any Known Injuries Amongst Freelancers?

    Really its a serious issue for freelancer like us. as i am working from my personal office and my working hours is around 10 hours a day online i am facing from back joint pain i already consult doctor but doctor suggest me do some exercise and yoga.

    Exercising and yoga is actually a superb way to relax your body, loosen your muscles and prepare for a long day of working hours. What your doctor suggest is good, but you'll have to find time doing this too. As I personally don't do yoga I try to use a stress ball as much as I can to decrease overstrain in my fingers. At least that counts for something but yoga is one thing I would like to start with as it helps you in many ways. Thanks for sharing.

    How could no one mention coffee burns! As a freelancer, you probably drink a ton of it sitting at your desk. Are There Any Known Injuries Amongst Freelancers?

    Seriously, another one is obesity. Sitting at a computer all day burns little calories so you either exercise or get fat. This damages your body much more than most other things.

    I always have rest while working as a freelancer for I know that there is risk involved if we don't take rest as freelancers. I also advise everyone working as freelancers to always create time to sleep for that will ensure that we have good health even as we chase the money.

    The carpal tunnel syndrome is getting prevalent because I know 2 persons who had surgery for that problem. But they are not freelancers though. One is my colleague in the office and another is a computer salesman. With freelancing I guess the most common health problem is the back pain that is caused by continuous sitting for a long period. When we are deep in thought on what we are doing it is normal to forget the time and be focused on what we are doing.
