    When buying sponsored tweets from a Twitter user, it's important to ensure your advertising message will be seen by real and not fake Twitter followers. If the user you are buying tweets from has mostly fake followers, (such as purchased followers or spammers looking for a follow-back), your advertising message will only be tweeted to unmanned or inactive accounts and will get ignored. This can lead to wasted advertising dollars.

    To determine if an account has real or fake followers, start by clicking on the Followers tab on a Twitter account, then inspect a cross section of followers using this criteria.

    Signs of a real follower:
    • User posts status updates often unrelated to a specific business or website
    • Uses a full name; personal photo as avatar and unique background/header image
    • Provides updated bio information including location
    • Refers to real life events, people, family or job
    • Uploads videos/images
    • Links to helpful sites, not just a site they own
    • Engages followers in real conversation, responding back to comments/retweets

    Signs of a fake follower:
    • Following many, while followed by only a few
    • Thousands of followers but few tweets
    • Similar tweets are repeated numerous times
    • Constantly tweets spam phrases such as "Work at home", "make money" or "Buy tweets"
    • Very little original content, such as all retweets or outbound links
    • Only promotional tweets

    You can also use automated apps such as SociaBakers or StatusPeople to check the account for fake Twitter followers.

    Nice To Know. How to spot fake followers on a Twitter account . When Im new to twitter many fake followers got a follow back from mwe. And when I started using website that helps you gain followes and buy followers I clearly noticed the fake or real and exactly what you said above.     Thanks for posting. The following many but only followed by few, is like 95% true. Also, the spam and promotional tweets. I know there are apps online, that let you know about fake followers too, don't have any of those or tried them, but apparently they have good reviews.

    This was insightful, because I never knew how to really spot these bot followers and your list seem absolutely correct.Bots cannot do much that why seeking for paid likes, comments and retweet is a waste for me because one hardly get the needed effect, how will one even expect a desirable result when all along the followers on his or her accounts are mere dummies.
