Are blog rings still used?

Back in the day, blog rings were very popular to use as they linked together all blogs of a common type. So for instance, if you were visiting a gardening forum, you could simply click on the next button in the blog ring banner and visit the next site in the ring. Does anyone still use blog rings for traffic? And, do they work?

Haha. I know that. I once added my blog there when it was just a few months old. But after a few months, a few of my visitors get anti-virus alerts on their browsers from the javascript code used in the blog/web ring, so I removed it.

wow! That's a very good reason not to use a blog ring. Thanks for that warning. That's a very serious issue.

I'm not sure if the issue is still ongoing though. But staying out of it is the best thing I could do.

I don't think the blog rings are really relevant anymore. And, I have not used them for a long time. Still I was wondering if others are using now or finding success with them. To me, any extra bit of code I have to put on my blog(s) is just clutter. I try to keep everything cleaned up. The fewer banners, the better. Though I do use ad code and affiliate banners when appropriate.

Blog rings are a very outdated concept. I think there must be easier ways to get visitors to your site, than the random few that would even use a blog ring to find new blogs to read.

I think for the safety of both my blog and to prevent my visitors from getting malwares to their computers, I stopped using the blog rings on my blogs. I need a safe environment on my blogs so that visitors can be comfortable of clicking on it.
