Thread killers

Some really good forum discussions suddenly grind to a half after one particular response and it seems they never get going again in popularity. How can you reboot a forum discussion to make it relevant and interesting again for forum members?

If I could not access a favorite subforum on a site, I might start spending less time there and over time just stop showing up.

First off, check the relevance of the thread to the current times. Take for instance the discussion about the presidential election particularly the prediction of the winners. When the election is over, this topic becomes obsolete. But with topics that don’t have expiration, you can inject something new. An example is about a hurricane that ravaged one state. You can make a follow up based on the weather forecast of another potential hurricane. Even if the upcoming calamity is in a different place, that is still relevant to the original topic.
