    When should you lock a thread?

    At what point would you lock a thread? For instance, do you lock a thread after a certain number of responses or leave it open infinitely?

    I agree with Robertman. I see no reason to lock a thread, I hate it when I have something to say about an issue and it is then locked.

    I agree with Robertman. I see no reason to lock a thread, I hate it when I have something to say about an issue and it is then locked.

    That can be really annoying and I've faced that situations on some forums; finding a thread that looks interesting and wanting to respond and clicking through only to find out it's been locked. In those situations, what would you do? Would you start a new similar discussion, so you could share your ideas?

    For me, a thread is a topic that have contents. What is a good reason for locking a thread? I don’t have any. Why not just leave it alone and let people judge for themselves. What if they are looking for something interesting and they dig deeper and deeper until finally finding a very old thread? Is it wrong to reply to that old thread? Again, a thread is a thread and it’s just all right if it is activated by a new comment. At least you have traffic instead of none.
