How do you handle talk of mental health issues on forum?

Some forums have strict policies against speaking of one's own mental health issues, such as thoughts of self harm or depression. What are the policies for speaking of mental health issues on your forum? What would you do if you thought one of your forum members might come to great harm?

If your forum concerns mental health issues, then it will be very common to hear others talking about this. However, if someone randomly mentions it, out of context, even referring to harming, then it could be a sign of trouble. You will want to privately discuss any such behavior with the member and find out why they are talking that way, so you can refer them to the appropriate counselor for further guidance.

If your forum has an off topic board then I guess it’s not right to prohibit any topic that is decent, of course. With mental health issues, it is one decent topic to me. However, if you are averse with the said topic then remove the off topic board and be strict with the categories that are assigned on the boards so the mods have the right to delete any topic pertaining to mental health. But once a topic is deleted, there should be a message to the poster an explanation why the topic was deleted.
