Gambling or Betting. Would you call it Freelancing?

Over the few past years betting and gambling sites have exploded and it can be seen literally everywhere on the internet. People from all over the world can easily place bets on various sites using both credit cards or PayPal, just to name two of the payment methods.

Obviously, these things often leads to addictions but if we forget about that part for now.. You can bet on things like football games and all that.. But, you can even place bets on CS:GO matches for instance.

With that being said, I've seen a lot of people having this like their "profession", and many of them are making loads of cash..

Some of them are truly putting in hours into this, to calculate the risks, finding information regarding different players to see if they've been sick etc. So they make real analysis. They also "invest" their money, as they are placing their money in the hands of a team of players..

Would you call them Freelancers and would you call it "investments"?

Tough! I'd say the professional Gambler who actually makes a consistent return is a freelancer. They've developed the skill (just as webmasters, SEOs, etc) to actually win and make an income. This is no different than learning to write great articles for clients on a freelance basis. They know which sites to gamble on, the rules, how to win, how to collect, etc. In the eyes of the US Government, they would be considered self employed.

On the other hand, I'd wager (no, gamble!) that very few people who use these sites are professional gamblers. I'd bet (10 to 1, haha) that the majority are amateurs and never see a return on their profit, or very little return. Rather than the question of "what" they are doing to earn money to be considered a freelancer, it is more of a question about their knowledge and profit.

I would probably agree with that. I would call professional gamblers freelancers too, as they are self employed. However I do believe that most of the people who gambles are just what you would call a gambler and nothing more than that. They gamble and prey to the "gambling god" for some luck so they can win. On a side note, I do also think that most of these people, even if they win, will gamble away everything in the end.

With that being said, who would you call a "professional" then? Someone who's able to win enough to make a living month after month, no matter how much they win or lose during the month or the ones betting small/large amounts and continues to bet with their profits and have a specific amount to gamble with each month?

Those who gamble for fun are just doing it as a hobby and/or entertainment. It is exiting, or so I've heard (I dislike gambling), to throw logic to the wind!

Malcolm Gladwell, in his book Outliers, states that it takes roughly 10,000 hours of doing anything to become a master. I don't believe you would need that much practice to be considered a professional and in fact, you could be a professional and a master at the same time. In my region, if you do anything for a living you are usually assumed to be a professional at it. You may also be considered a professional if you have formal education in the subject, but that is usually accompanied by having a job in said subject (which provides your living income).

So, to answer your question, I'd consider anyone that makes a living doing something a professional. This doesn't mean the kid who lives with his parents (at 27 years old) making $200 a month to play World of Warcraft either. I mean surviving on their own doing said subject.

Interesting question! With freelancing, you are kind of working for money but with gambling, that is not really the case. I personally would call it a high risk investment. This is actually quite interesting, I haven’t really heard of anyone gambling as a profession. To be honest, gambling is hard because the companies behind them are using probability themselves to choose payout ratios that gives them the highest profits and since these companies are still operating, then they must be earning profit. Therefore, chances are most people are losing their bets. However, I have heard a lot of people having success with match betting. It seems like a pretty decent method if you want some extra cash.

I wouldn't call it freelancing or investing. It's gambling through and through no two ways about it (no gambling pun intended)! With freelancing you're working for the money so as long as you do the work you're pretty much guaranteed the money. Investing money and gambling money both have their risks. But investments are only usually made following a lot of research and can also be insured too for really large investments. You can do a lot of research into players and their teams and calculate the most probable odds, but when it comes to betting on sports or any game, anything can happen and usually do so the risk is a lot greater. Plus you can't get betting insurance! However, for some people who have passions in some sports like football, horse racing etc and are knowledgeable about them can use that to their advantage to calculate the most probable odds of course. And some people are better at it than others. Some people really do make a lot of money from it too. But they usually loose a lot of their money quickly too as the buzz of winning takes over and makes them place ever bigger bets to try and score a win. Not many people ever get out of the gambling hook early and walk away with a profit before all their winnings are spent.

You're right though. It seems there's a new betting website or app starting every weekend. And the ones that are big have ever bigger adverts saying come to our site deposit $10 get $100 free to play with! But they don't tell you that the minimum withdraw has to be $250 or something. I remember reading a story about a guy who gamed them all at their own system though. I think he joined one site, won money, then used that to join another and win money and kept doing it all the time until he made about 100k or something. And there's some people that do that with free online poker games too. There's people that enter free poker tournaments that offer cash prizes to the winners, then win of course (because poker is 99% luck 1% skill) and then use that to enter more poker tournaments and win them and go on to make a million or something. It happens!

But yeah, no I wouldn't call them freelancing. Gambling or Betting. Would you call it Freelancing?

Interesting discussion. There are in fact many people who spend hours online betting and gambling, and they seem to be increasing as years go by. Personally I would definitely not call them freelancers. They are making money out of it, fine, but it is just out of luck in my opinion. You might say that they calculate the risks involved, and try to be as professional as can be about it especially after several bets and years of experience. But ultimately it is still a game. I would maybe go as far as calling it a form of investment, and a risky one in that case. But definitely not a type of freelance job.

Hi hitmeasap thanks for talking about a nice topic. I never believe Gambling or Betting it is called freelancing. People may misunderstand about freelancing. There has huge different. Freelancing meanly on you have direct client to do work and you do not need to invest such noticeable way. And most of the time I called there only need to invest your knowledge and it is called pure freelancing, where you only need to invest knowledge or experience. On the other hand for Gambling or Betting, you have to invest any amount of money and there has no guarantee to earn money and you may loser or gainer and it is depend on your luck and somebody may play role behind you. And he may impose tricks. And I never want to say it is freelancing.

Thanks by Ajlancer

Have you head the terms such as part time gambler full time gambler, Perhaps no. That's because gambling and betting are not grouped into job category. Even if the person is earning his livelihood through gambling and betting, gambling and betting can in no way be called a job, or freelancing job for that matter. Gambling and betting are grouped into entertainment category.

I grew up in a family of gamblers because my father was a race horse trainer and my 3 brothers were jockeys. And although I do not bet, I fully understand how gambling works. Freelancing is working to earn which ordinarily you do not lose money while gambling has the probability to lose. No, I don't consider gambling as freelancing.

This is a hard knock question because naturally I don't know where to actually classified Gambling but I wouldn't want to believe it freelancing. in gambling there's a high risk involved. This is all about depositing some money to.get more from a system which is a high risk. Freelancing isn't risk because one just work and earn so as such gambling is no freelancing

Gambling can be considered a hobby or maybe an occupation but it cannot be called a livelihood. An occupation is an activity that occupies your time but it doesn't necessarily mean that you are earning. Freelancing is for earning money whethet it is a hobby or livelihood so I cannot say that it is comparable to gambling or vice versa.

I wouldn't call is freelancing. It's just having fun and not work. I don't know why you put the question this way. Have you gotten experience with Bitcoin gambling?

So much of theoretical pondering on this forum. While the topic starter and me too are interested in practical usage of crypto vs. gambling. So what? Nobody tried?

If we talk about gambling, then I completely agree. It turns out that you, like a freelancer, make money when you want and how you want. There is now a fairly wide selection of sites that review online casinos. Therefore, they can also be perceived as job search sites for a gambler.

I agree, this article is pretty useful. Still, I wouldn't call betting a freelance job, since there are no employers. You work for yourself, using all available tools like prediction websites. What do they offer? These service will provide accurate predictions regarding the winner in one of the upcoming football events. Using them, you can make sure bets easily without spending time on thinking yourself.

I prefer gambling more, because I am a gambler and I understand that now there are a lot of reliable sites where you can play comfortably, enjoy the game, without much loss of money and with a secure site attitude to the personal data of users. If you want to play at an online casino, you can visit the page https://fukurocasinos.com/online-casino/live/ and see a review of the best live casinos. This will be very useful for novice players, as it will protect yourself, as you will have reliable information and will be able to choose the best option for yourself. Speaking of casinos, the number of online gamblers increases as it relates to online casinos, but online casinos are gaining popularity among them. I think it is worth taking advantage of it.
