Is it worth it to advertise on snapchat?

I was thinking to myself "what is an untapped platform for me to advertise on?" and snapchat came to mind. Now I know people/companies do advertise on there, but I had some questions pop up before I do my research on the platform.

Questions:
- Do you need to be a business or can anyone advertise on snapchat?
- Do people advertise their profiles in order to get more followers?
- Do companies advertise and focus on followers or click throughs on their ads? (more like conversions).
- How much does it cost to advertise on snapchat?
- Is the advertising dashboard similar to adwords and adcenter?
- What sets snapchat advertising apart from adwords and adcenter?
- What kind of conversions have you seen, or heard of, by advertising through snapchat.

Those are just my tip of the iceberg questions. I'm sure I'll have more as I do some research

Snapchat advertising is best for 13-34 year olds in the US (source). I couldn't find much else about it except that when it was first launched they were asking for a minimum of $750,000! You have to be a pretty big brand to afford that.

Like you said, it was when Snapchat first offered ads. In January 2015. The prices have dropped since then. Now they ask brands for $50,000 as a minimum. You can read more about it here. When they asked for $750,000 it was also for a one-day ad only according to several sources meanwhile others said they got their ads for free because Snapchat like their ads and ideas. That's ridiculous no matter what. Pure insanity if you ask me.

SnapChat is a popular mobile app for young people. So if your target market are teens and youngsters, it would be a good idea to try it out. I do not know about the prices that one would need to pay, although I read somewhere that rates were reduced a bit. There are several businesses who used SnapChat to advertise special discounts and promos, because when it comes to this app one of the most important things is to keep the message as simple and as concise as possible because the picture will only be visible for a limited period of time and so it really needs to make and impact, and quick!
