We all know that you need both on page optimization and off page optimization as well as a social presence in order to be seen as an authority in your niche as well as loved by Google, Yahoo! and Bing. But let's be real, I'm really just referring to Google, I had to mention Yahoo! and Bing just so they don't get upset ;)
For the on page optimization part of things you'll need to sift through your code and make sure it's up to par with Googles guidelines. Don't break any rules or Google will hate you. It sucks, but we all have to abide by the rules the big man puts in place otherwise they will not send the traffic that converts into sales
As for the off page optimization. I would highly recommend hiring someone to do this for you since this can kill your rankings for a long time if done wrong. I know I screwed up a few of my websites when I started out because I didn't know exactly what I was doing and just paid a guy to build 1,000,000 backlinks for me. Now I know that building 1,000,000 profile backlinks on 1,000 different websites is a huge No No. But we all learn at some point, right
For the social media presence you'll need to be a bit more involved unless you can hire a VA (Virtual Assistant) to do the work for you. You could post a few times a day or just once a week, it's up to you. Google just wants to see that your business/website is active and that you're engaging your visitors, even if they're not there yet. Be active on your facebook page even if you only have 10 likes. Google is always watching and it could pay off later on down the road. Be sure to keep you tweets fresh each week since twitter gets seen by loads of people. You never know who will retweet your message and bring in a flood of traffic and sales ;) All in all, be active on your social profiles and try not to forget about any. Later on you'll love that you invested an hour a week into each social platform.
