How do you make the most out of freelancing without getting stressed out?

Freelancing is a great way to make some extra money online. Many people have grasped this opportunity once the internet became a force in daily life. However, there is a problem that many freelancers face - You cannot quite set a fixed number of hours like you would do in a normal job. You may have days where you have a lot of tasks to see to, whereas other days are almost empty. On the busy days you tend to end up getting overtired and stressed out. So, for you who have experience in freelancing, are there any tips that you put into practice to deal with this problem?

Freelancing without getting stressed out? I guess it's not easy. Freelancing as any other job have it's own good and bad days. Sometime you get customer which do not know enough about your job, ask too many questions, playing dumb on purpose, begging for discounts, trying to get as much is possible for less possible investment... etc. etc. But, after all we get trough somehow. That's why i do walking by the river as stress relief How do you make the most out of freelancing without getting stressed out?

That is unfortunately one of the downsides to freelancing and everyone who will face this issue sometime in their career. Here is some advice that I find quite useful:

Build a network: Since one of the biggest problems with freelancers is not getting any business from time to time, therefore, it is important to build a network of clients. To do this, you must provide exceptional quality work and try to keep in contact with customers and also request for feedback every time you do work for them. This way, once clients trust you, they will keep coming back to you and eventually, you will have a very steady flow of work.

Outsourcing: Is having a lot of work always a good thing? Of course not, you will have too much work to do and quality will depreciate as a result. Here is where networking needs to happen as well. As well as building relationships with clients, it is also important to build relationships with other freelancers. You should then outsource work to the freelancers who you know will provide high quality work but of course pay them less than the amount you charge your client.

Using these two tips, you will be able to get out of the stressful situation after a while.

What I find useful to do is remember why I'm actually doing it in the first place. That could be to pay my bills, put some food on the table or perhaps treat myself to something at the end of the month. One good way of finding inspiration is to print out pictures of the things that I would most like to have and then stick them to my wall next to where my PC is. That way whenever I'm feeling discouraged, I look at the pictures of the things I want or need and it gives me a little more motivation because I know that by working hard I will be able to get those things.

The other tip I would give so you don't get too stressed out is to take a break! Literally remove yourself from your PC or the room where you work on your PC and go outside and get some fresh air! Even if its just for 5 minutes. The change of scenery will refresh you and not give you that feeling like the walls are closing in and you're running out of oxygen.

Sometimes I've been so dedicated to a task that I've practically burnt myself out by working so hard on it. Sometimes by taking a break, it actually makes you much more productive than it would not taking any breaks and just hammering at it until its completed which makes you a much more proficient worker!

The other good thing is to remind yourself of the alternative. You could be working in a miserable job in a tiny little box room with no window or radio (I've been there before!) for a meager wage by a boss that doesn't really appreciate you or care much for you anyway. That really sucks to be in a job like that. Or you could be doing something much much worse than Freelancing that doesn't provide you with all the comforts that Freelancing provides such as being able to work from the comfort of your own home, in your own time.

And I didn't even mention the rat race! Arrr the dreaded rat race! Stuck in traffic on blazing hot days for hours just wanting to get home, have some dinner, have a shower and chill out for the evening. None of that exists in the world of Freelancing. You are always at home, or, you could be working on a laptop on a beach somewhere in Maui drinking cocktails and eating volovants! How do you make the most out of freelancing without getting stressed out?

But as anweb pointed out, even Freelancing has its stresses. Because we don't live in a perfect world. You could spend a lot of time an effort on something and the buyer not be happy with it and request it all be done again. Or perhaps the service is good but the buyer is being unreasonable and refuses to pay you for the work. These things can happen. However, the good that can comes about from Freelancing far outweighs any of the negative stuff that can happen. Just remember these tips and remember to take a break once in a while!

The best part for most of us Freelancers is being your own boss. However, that might lead to what you've just described. Insane amount of effort and time consuming tasks right before deadline if you don't properly manage your time.

I'm using a to do list to manage this and to stay away from the stress. I check my to do list each morning and handle the points one by one until it's finished. When the list is empty and I've done all the tasks I spend the remaining time of the day doing other business related things. If I've got any emails or messages regarding support of any kind, I usually put this on the list and handle this the next day. The same goes for orders if I'm not able to complete them the same day during my work hours.

Setting up a schedule and work 9-5 for instance, is usually a good option to remain sane, calm and to bring your A game at all times. This works well even if you don't have any new orders one day, as you can use this time to find new clients or to setup advertising campaigns etc. The key is to always use your time in the best possible way you can.

Another thing to remember is to have lunch breaks etc. as you would have if you worked on another place. Routines are also vital.

Best Regards,
hitmeasap

My freelancing is part time only and I rarely experience being stressed. It is because I enjoy my work as a content provider for forums. It is not only fun but educational as well with the knowledge I get from reading the posts on the forum boards. If ever I get streesed then I would probably quit working online for the meager income is not worth the trouble.

I don't overwork my pretty head, I try to relax in between work.It always good to catch a breath while working. It always good to work hard and play hard too.So I work and also relax as well.I don't work all through, It could really tell on the body.I sometimes seek assistance if I really need on.
