Each search engine seems to like different things, so it is the best to optimize your website for the main search engine - Google. Do not bother to optimize your website for other search engines.

The major search engines aside from Google are Yahoo which is ranked in the top 10 in Alexa and Bing which is in the top 50 websites. But there are other search engines that are also getting good traffic. In one discussion, I had read that Ask.com is getting millions of hits per day and that is good news because that search engine was already there when Google was just starting.
