Depends on the free time. Usually I spend around 1 hour per site per week for link building.

Generally speaking, SEO is one-time work. You don't have to work everyday to optimize your website for search engine. In order to do on-page SEO, you have to use keywords in your site title, site description, content title, content description, content body, image title, image description, image caption. Once you do on-page SEO you don't have to return to your site to do on-page SEO unless you are going to add new content. Technical SEO, which includes improving site speed and having user-friendly design is also one time work. You might have to work once in a while for off page SEO.

According to one SEO specialist that was interviewed on a radio program recently, SEO work is a daily activity. But there is no need to do so much SEO work in a day that his recommendation for an ordinary and personal website is about 30 minutes in a day that excludes writing the contents because the content is a different matter especially if your website is a blog. Promoting your site in the social media and in other websites will be enough for the 30 minutes of time that you will devote each day.
