Everyone talks about how they're going to be the best in the industry and how they're going to make millions of dollars but no one talks about if they're cut out to be a digital marketer. I'll be honest with you, it's not like any other job I've ever had and I love it, but there are some of you out there who are chasing fortunes you'll never get. It's a tough reality when you invest a ton of time and money into something only to see it fail, which is what a lot of digital marketing is, but those few times you succeed will keep pulling you back in. It's similar to gambling where you lose a lot and hit it big then keep playing lol.
In this discussion, I'll be going over the top 10 traits a person should have if they want to become a digital marketer. Now, you won't need all of them, but I hope you at least entertain the idea of them lol.
You're a patient person
If you're not patient when it comes to SEO and Marketing, you're going to burn a lot of websites and clients will hate you. If you are a patient person, then you might make it in this industry since SEO could take months or years to do right and see results.
You're not afraid of a complex puzzle
Again, this isn't an easy job but, I love it due to the complexity of things. SEO is super-complex when you begin to break it down. It's not just content on your website and backlinks from a 3rd party, there are little things that need to be done at every step if you want your campaign to be as successful as possible.
You want to keep learning
If you think you're going to read one book and know all there is about digital marketing, you're in for a rude awakening lol. I actually talked to someone who was getting their "Online Marketing Certificate" from some obscure course not many people have heard of and when I talked to her about advanced techniques, she said "So, this certificate is pointless and I should have just paid you to teach me?" and she's not wrong lol.
A short class that hands out a certificate won't get you far, but if you continue learning and evolving your understanding of everything related to a website then you may have a chance 
You're a trustworthy individual
There are a lot of scammers out there and the digital marketing community has a few more than most industries. It's getting more and more difficult to capture a sale, keep them on board, and turn them into a life long client today than it was 10 years ago.
So many people get scammed when it comes to digital marketing because they buy through Facebook or Instagram, which are horrible places to search for experts, but these people get their trust broken because of it. You will need to prove yourself as a trustworthy individual and stay that way while helping your clients.
You can manage others well
If your business gets large enough, you will need some employees to handle the smaller tasks while you focus on the bigger ones. If you can manage a team of people, you might be cut out for the digital marketing arena, and I hope you keep up the good work.
If you don't want to talk to your team, only converse via email, and hate video chatting, then you may not want to start digital marketing because there needs to be teamwork within your group to get big projects done.
You care about customers growth
If you're getting into this solely for profit, you should quit now, and I say that because your customers will hate you so much that they will go out of their way to leave bad reviews for you. One bad review can hurt a business in its early stages, which is why you need to care about your customers and grow their business.
You're not afraid to communicate
If you're willing to get on the phone or a video chat with your customers, then you're one step ahead of most digital marketing "professionals" out there. I hate talking on the phone or chatting with someone via Skype, but I do it anyway because I know the client likes to hear my voice and see my face.
You're a storyteller
One of the best skills you can have when it comes to digital marketing is being a storyteller. You will need to craft content in a way that entices people to click through, read everything you've written, and stay on your website as long as possible. If you can do this for yourself, and clients, you will be well on your way to success as a digital marketing expert
You're not easily distracted
A big problem I've noticed in the SEO and Marketing community is when something new comes out, there is always a flood of people testing it out and sticking with it for some reason. Sure, there are some services that come out of left field that are amazing, but most of them are rehashed and not needed, which is why you need to stick in your lane and do what is working while others test new avenues. Let other people mess something up while you continue to do what works.

If you have at least 5 of the traits above, then you can probably cut it as a digital marketing professional. If you read through this entire discussion and thought, "None of this is true!" then you're probably not going to make it long in our arena lol.
