Actually what you need to do is first, research and choose suitable keywords, then do on-page seo then off-page...quite a lot to learn!

In theory, it is really easy to rank on the first page of Google. However, in practice, it is quite difficult. First of all you need contents that are unique, original and interesting. Secondly, these articles should have focus keywords that get high search hits but have not good contents on the internet. Lower the competition, higher is the chances of getting top rank. Thirdly, you need to create backlinks from sites that have high authority and are ranked higher. It will be more beneficial to have backlinks from ord, edu and gov domains.
last but not the least, site design and site loading speed are also important.

This is a nice challenge to website owners – getting your website on the first page of the search list of Google or any other website. The first step is to list down the SEO activities that you can do like stuffing your website’s contents with appropriate keywords, going the rounds of bookmarking sites, uploading fresh contents frequently, etc. Second step is to chart your course of action, how many hours can you spend a day for the SEO activities. Third step is the execution of the plan. Just take note that the SEO activities you do may effect instantly or be much delayed like a week or even as far as a month of waiting. And if your effort is not enough, do some more.
