Not a lot of companies are targeting kids in high school, mainly because teenagers don't have regular jobs and can't spend as much online, but that is why targeting them is such a great thing to do! Yes, they don't have the jobs that allow them to make a purchase online, and they won't make you a ton of money right now, but they are extremely active online and will more than likely share your business or website if they find it entertaining.
Teenagers can help you build a brand without you having to actually pay them, which is extremely convenient because now you have a ton of brand ambassadors who are very vocal online, especially on social media. Below I'll cover a few things you should focus on and take note of if you're wanting to pull in a lot of teenagers in order to profit millions down the road. You should know it's not going to be an easy thing to do, but if you're successful at this you could make thousands of dollars each day almost on autopilot 
Online activity for teenagers has doubled
Over the last 5 years, we've seen an increase in online activity due to smartphone technology making it easier to get online no matter where you're at. As the prices of smartphones get lower, the number of people getting online has increased, and it's skyrocketed in the teenager age range of 13 to 19. It's almost doubled in size in the last 5 years, making it the biggest area of growth for an age demographic, which means if you're not targeting the teenagers you probably should think of a marketing plan that will be great to pull them in
Build a brand with teenagers as your demographic
If you start off targeting teens and have a website or business that caters to a need or want of theirs, you can pull in a massive amount of traffic over time, which turns into profits later on. Think about it, most of the social platforms are getting too "mainstream" for teenagers and they don't think it's "hip" to be on there talking to their parents. They're looking for better platforms that allow them to be free from prying eyes, and that might be where you come in.
You can either stay targeting teens or grow to accommodate their interests over time. Facebook grew from a platform targeting college kids and expanded to the world, so you need to take notes on what they did and grow just like that.
They can't spend as much, but they can click!
You won't make as much money from teenagers buying products or services off of your website, but you will get them to click on ads if they are somewhat interested. You can use a customized advertising platform for people to advertise towards teens, but you will need a massive amount of traffic before you entice anyone to come make an advertising profile, so you might want to stick with Adsense for now since they pay per click and not per sale.
You could go the affiliate route and put up links that give you a commission whenever someone makes a purchase, but again, teenagers don't have the funds like an adult would so you might not make as many sales.
If you get the teens now, they will be loyal later (hopefully)
Again, take note of how Facebook grew online and where they started off. They were targeting the 17 to 25 age range but didn't really think about it because they wanted to build something that their friends would use. Over time they expanded to everyone in the world, making Facebook extremely diverse and not targeting college kids.
If you were to grow like Facebook did, you would likely have a lot of loyal teenagers sticking with you over the years. Now, this is where the main problem comes into play because the new teenagers may not find you "hip" anymore and they could go to the next big platform. Stay "hip" and teenagers will always stick with you!
Teens are leaving Facebook for greener pastures
Like I mentioned above, teenagers are leaving Facebook like it's a sinking ship and they're trying to save themselves. Now, they're really leaving because they don't find it as cool as other platforms that keep them secluded from their parents and adults who make a platform "un-cool" lol.
If you can make a cool place for teenagers to hang out online, while keeping their information safe from prying eyes, you can rake in millions of dollars in ad revenue.
In conclusion
You don't need to make the next Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, etc. you just need to make a place for teenagers to hang out online and chat with each other. If you can make it a place where they feel safe, but it's also cool, you can bring in a lot of teenagers in a short amount of time because they will begin to share your website and that means free advertising lol. Think of what teenagers want, act on it, and bring them into your website by the masses

Oh man, McDonald's targets kids all of the time because they know kids will beg their parents to go in just to get some chicken nuggets or a specific toy. McDonald's actually loses money on their chicken nuggets, which means they're a loss leader, and they're only sold to get kids to bring their parents in who spend $30 for the entire family who needs to eat :D
I knew big companies hired psychologists for their marketing, it's just not done a ton because most companies have marketing teams in place who are basically psychologists in their own right. They know who to target, what to say, how to peak their interest, and what to price the products at in order to sell the most possible :D

I know the feeling this is so true. When my kids started to beg and give you these poor faces like, we really cannot endure it anymore haha. And we can notice its all there, from food, drinks, desserts and even added toys too. They just really know who to target with - the weakness of every parents. :)

I see where it's confusing, but I'm more talking along the lines of a major purchase, which is something more along the lines of a car or even a house. If bigger ticket items were marketed to teens early on, those teens would likely buy them later on down the road after seeing 5 star reviews for the last 10 years online.
Parents will always buy their kids something like an xbox or ps4, but they don't always buy them a car, which is what I'm trying to get at. Tweak your marketing now, in a fun way, and you will be able to bring teens in later on down the road who will have wanted to purchase your product for the last few years :D
