How can i optimize the images of my Shopify / E-commerce websites?

Started new Shopify / E-commerce website, it's finding difficult to optimize the images of the website. The size of every image is between 25KB TO 50KB of JPG FORMAT(.jpg) and dimension is 480x480 pixels, resolutions 72dpi approximate. When I tested the website on Google insights the mobile percentage is 89/100 but for Desktop it's only 30/100 percentage. Used image optimizing tools/Apps but it's of no use, no changes in the image size. For example, the Image size is 49.7KB {need to Compressing and resizing and could save 40.4KiB (77% reduction)} this is the Suggestions from the speed test. Need to work on the desktop so how can I reduce the size of the images without losing the quality?

This is one of the main reasons I stopped using Shopify, the other reason was that it was super expensive compared to setting up my own WordPress + WooCommerce website lol.

I always ran into problems optimizing my Shopify websites because they don't really give your back-end access to the code your website is running on. You're essentially paying for a dashboard that you can slightly customize and not actually do anything else with. Sure, they give you the freedom to pick some specific titles but that's about it. You can't really optimize your load times by reducing file sizes and editing meta tags or headers.

You're essentially at the mercy of what Shopify lets you do, and that's not much, but at least their free themes look pretty

I would suggest you go with WordPress and figure out how to use WooCommerce since you'll get access to the code and be able to optimize everything extremely easy. This probably isn't the response you were hoping for, but I had to come in here and list my frustrations so you understand what you're in for and experiencing. I've been doing SEO and Online Marketing since 2003 and had a tough time with all the restraints Shopify puts on their users. They have a pretty set up and are user-friendly on their dashboard, but you can't customize much of their stuff and optimize for much since you don't really have access to much on the back end.

Shopify has so much potential, but it feels like they're just targeting the people who are starting off with websites and don't know any better :'(

I can completely understand how you feel! I had a similar issue while writing my blog because I always wanted to put at least a few pictures next to the article.

Anyway, you didn't say if you're running it on WordPress but if you are then you're in luck. There are some really high-quality image optimizer plugins. Just download one and give it a try. My suggestion would be to try out SMUSH plugin or EWWW Image Optimizer plugin.

I think that you have pretty much optimised the images as much as possible really. If you try to optimise your images further then chances are that you will end up having images that are extremely low quality and your users won't be too happy to see them. I don't think you need to do it any further either, I'm sure your site is pretty fast to load up and visit for your end users already

I have not used shopify therefore I don't know how it works on shopify. However, I have used wordpress and on wordpress you can find many plugins that automatically resize your images, you do not have to work on emage editor to resize your images. The plugin that I can recommend you is smush. This plugin will optimize every image you ipload on your site.
Well, site speed is not only related to image size, you will have to check other issues such as server speed, plugins used, media used etc.

Be sure not to distort the image quality too much when you are trying to optimize it for your shopify because from my experience when you tend to over do it, the image quality will adversely be affected which ruins the whole work done. Site visitors don't fancy poor and low quality images, and it actually affects the general outlook of the site which also affects its ranking in a very bad way.

I know that images with heavy resolution will slow down the display. This happened to our blog before when the image has a very high resolution that when uploaded it takes time for the web page to display in full. What we did was to use photoshop to save the image in the same size but with a lower resolution. I think that was the solution because the image got quicker in displaying.
