60 percent of all links published on Twitter never receive ONE click. Similar stats may be true for other social networks although Twitter has the biggest problem.
So what is the reason behind this? Why doesn't more than half of the content posted on Twitter get one single visit?
Well, there are actually multiple reasons for this on which we will elaborate later, but first of all, we should get one thing out of the way:
There are people out there, especially people that work in the digital industry and anything related to marketing that share stuff on social media without actually reading the articles themselves or even clicking on the link!
So if you get shares and likes but the actual engagement doesn't really add up, this is the reason!
So what type of content turns people off in such a way that they simply ignore it altogether or decide to share it without actually reading it?
Here the main reasons why your content doesn't attract the traffic you were hoping for:
1. Boring. It's simply boring. You need to learn to accept the fact that your content might be boring and that people don't necessarily find interesting whatever you decide on writing.
You need to figure out your reader's persona and put yourself in their shoes. Do they have the time to read some useless article they acquire no knowledge from? Are they even interested in the topics you are writing about? Analyze before you start writing.
2. You write about you a lot, or you tend to make everything about you. Nobody cares, seriously, unless you already achieved some guru status, in which case you don't need these tips, I suggest you stop making everything about you. Include personal opinions and statements, but don't always talk about yourself, everyone hates that.
3. You write for search engines and not for people. Ok, SEO is important, we all know that. But when you start creating content specially written robots you are in the wrong, big time!
There is no excuse for doing this anymore in 2017. Writing for search engines and crawl robots is long dead and buried. Search Engines are very smart nowadays, start writing for people and you will get better ranks!
4. You write slappy content. Inaccurate and incomplete articles aren't appreciated by anybody, not even search engines and crawl robots! So stop creating content if it is low-quality and useless.
5. You don't know what text formatting is. Ok, some maybe know how to write good accurate content. But if you don't know how to correctly format the text so that it becomes more readable you will lose readers in the very next second. Wall of text type content has no place on the internet. Deal with it.
6. You are all over the place! This usually happens when you are talking about too many different subjects in the same piece of content. I'm all for including and talking about a subject in full, being complete regarding important information. But when you start going off track into multiple subjects, you are going to lose the reader.
In the end: Creating good content in 2017 is no easy task.

I think a relatively large number of followers can help things flow, but if there is no quality content... The numbers are no use at all.
Particularly speaking, I prefer just a few followers and good content because the advertising comes organically / mouth to mouth. :D

I know exactly what you mean. I've come across plenty of articles, blog posts, and discussions that make me want to leave as soon as I get to the page. I mean, do people plan out what they are typing and after they are done, do they actually read through it to make sure it makes sense at all? Some of the blog posts I come across seem to be so bland that I really wonder what type of personality the author has lol.
2: You Write About You, A Lot
I actually fall into this section I think lol. I usually add an example into some of my discussions whether it be for myself or a client I've been working with. I don't take up the entire discussion and write about myself, I'm not that vein lol, but I think I still might fall into this once in a while
3: You Write For The Search Engines
Whenever I stumble upon an article directory, I always see this (there I go talking about myself again lol). It seems like everyone is just learning SEO and wanting to get to the very top for every keyword, but they over optimize everything they do. Some of these articles and posts are actually pretty funny, they're so precise when it comes to optimization that I'm sure Google and the other search engines can pick them out of a massive crowd
4: Slappy Content Generators
This really annoys me, especially when a service provider is trying to sell "High-Quality Content" and they hand out this type of crap to their clients. I understand if they're trying to write up content that is going to be made into a second or third tier backlink, but content like this will never touch my websites lol
5: You Don't Know What Text Formatting is!
This drives me insane, sort of literally when I come across a long article and it's just a wall of text. It doesn't take long to make a post look pretty by adding just some bold titles, just like my comment! Breaking up the wall of text makes it much easier to read, it's like giving your brain a short break before you head on down the article lol. I've even come across plenty of services here on SEOclerks because I see the service provider complain "Why aren't I making any sales?!?!?!" and the main reason is that it's just a wall of text the person has to read lmao

It's extremely difficult to read articles like this and I'm sure the bounce rate on them is through the roof. It's like the writer picked topics out of a hat and decided that it was better to write a paragraph on each topic instead of making each topic their own article lol. Some people are just too lazy to write up a unique article on a single topic and others simply can't do it because they're not used to writing but are trying.
