    Snapchat isn't dead yet - Kids are still leaving Facebook - Social Media Marketing Tips

    Snapchat isn
    Facebook currently has over 2 billion users and continuously gains new users every month and to be more exact Facebook grows every month with at a rate of 2.4%. That is a huge number of new users every month, but this is an overall statistic, in the 12-17 age category Facebook is actually losing users at a rate of 4% every month. 

    This tells me a lot about the younger generation and how Instagram and Snapchat mean more to them than Facebook. Of course, I don't think Facebook is going anywhere too soon but when it comes to social media we must watch out for trends! 
    When Facebook bought Instagram nobody expected to become so popular but it was the right move to make and now Facebook essentially has a safety net when it comes to the younger generations, a social media that appeals to them. 

    Facebook's main rival is Snapchat which seems that isn't going away anytime too soon and at least for the US market, Snapchat projects an increase of 8% in users overall and a 21% percent increase for young adults between 18 and 24 years of age. 

    In my opinion, online marketers should be prepared for these new changes, it seems to be that having a Facebook profile will become in the future a step of growing up and many young adults will join Facebook, not because they want to but because they need to.

    Either way here is a list of heads-up in terms of social media marketing and appealing to a younger audience:

    1. Don't forget that kids don't have the money yet. They'll just ask the parents for whatever they want to buy and you may consider including the parents in your marketing strategies since they are the ones with the money as well as the final decision. 

    2. Test your marketing campaigns on other platforms outside Facebook, like Instagram and Snapchat. Get an idea of how everything works and how it can actually help your brand. Test and don't risk much, figure out what works best for you and ride the wave if you catch one. 

    3. Snapchat is mostly a place where young adults can be themselves, away from Facebook and away from their parents. This doesn't mean they are receptive to business type campaigns, you can't really go on Snapchat and sell legal services any other grown-up serious service/product. 

    4. Don't abandon Facebook just yet even if you are having good results on Snapchat and Instagram. Facebook still is the biggest social media the world has ever seen. 

    5. Snapchat isn't dead and when a newer social network comes along there will be people out there that will claim Snapchat is dead and buried. If you are still making a profit by using these networks, keep doing it, no point in a panic every time you read an article that claims this or that social network is going to die. The reality is it takes a long time to a social network as big as Snapchat is going to die and even more time for a social network the size of Facebook, if ever. 

    What do you think about young people abandoning Facebook or not joining Facebook at all? To tell you the truth I would probably do the same thing, why the hell should I join a place where both my parents have an account? 
    Teens want to stay away from their parents and I don't think Instagram will be enough, this is why I believe new arrivals like Snapchat will always have a place among the big boys if they can attract the teens.

    I think it's definitely not dead. But it has changed a lot. Like private rooms and the stuff. I didn't expected snapchat to make that much type of the progress. So it's reasonable that the kids may take some time for the social media to adopt. And I think facebook has it's set of the limitations. And it's too much to consume content on facebook. So that needs to be reduced as well. I like facebook but I think instagram is lot better when it comes to consuming the content. That's the thing about the social media people have to see as well.

    I am skeptical with your findings that the young generation is leaving Facebook in favor of Snapchat. In avoiding people, not necessarily their parents, the young just create another account using an alias and that's it. No need to go to Snapchat. From what I understand, they use Snapchat as a novelty only and not really for connecting. But I agree that Snapchat is not dead nor dying. As long as it has something new to offer, it will continue to be patronized not just by the youth but also by the older generation.

    I don't know about this your findings but I think the youngsters are still in Facebook because that's where they start with before joining other social Media platform maybe we could say they're also snapchat as more as Facebook.

    Sure snap chat is the in thing now for teens anything ads campaign for teens should be more on Facebook and snapchat.

    It could be that Snapchat will continue to be profitable because young people who use it now, will remember it as something that was helpful for fun for them when they were kids. I think it is something tha will not die out for a very long time. I think keep your eyes on it.

    I don't expect Snapchat to die anytime soon although it does have a formidable foe in Facebook and its subsidiary, Instagram. While Snapchat isn't as popular as Facebook/Instagram in my country, techies know that Facebook and other social media companies are buying technologies and acquiring people to help them offer the fun features that Snapchat is already offering to its users from the get go. So yes, people may join Facebook as a standard thing, but will also explore sites with simpler and uncomplicated interface and fun features. This is the reason for the popularity of both Instagram and Snapchat. It would be a mistake to forego digital marketing efforts on alternative sites as well as emerging sites.

    Facebook and Twitter are now used more by older people and younger people are going to instagram, pinterest, snapchat and many other social media platforms I bet you have never heard about. Your social media campaign should be based on social media demography. If you are targeting to the people between 45-55 years of age, twitter and facebook are the best options. However, if you are marketing to young women, Pinterest will be the best option. When you are doing social media marketing, always check who is using "this" social media.

    It still exist almost allpeople have an account in face book, twitter and instagram. Snap chat is where
    young people use to enjoy it, like my kid she really like using it. The youngest social media usersare loyal to Snapchat. Snapchat is not that popular compare to face book or instagram
    but for sure it will stay long and it will continue and bring more excitement
    to all users.

    I only clicked to read this discussion because it mentioned SnapChat and I don't know much about this app. At any rate, I'm an old person and I've already got settled on Facebook and have no plans to leave. Never succeeded in creating an Instagram. I might get around to it one day. Meanwhile, my Instagram alternatives are Pinterest and Tumblr.

    P.S. My kids are on Facebook. I “unfriended” them. They're boring. Snapchat isn

    They say young people are concentrated on the social media sites like snapchat and instagram and 'old people' are concentrated on facebook and twitter. LinkedIn for professionals and on Pinterest most of the active users are woman. I guess people are choosing social media platforms based on their interest and age group.
    My wife is on facebook, twitter and Pinterest, however, I barely interact with her posts

    I don't really use SnapChat and I think that I must check it out. I am actually an online seller and maybe advertising on there might help me. I will definitely research about this platform. I actually use Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and recently started using Instagram. I have been more successful on Facebook and my online business has flourished due to it.

    As I mentioned earlier, Snapchat might be popular with the younger generation who will remember it, but I am totally unfamiliar with it, so I don;t think it is something that would work for me. I will leave marketing on it to those who use it, and know about it.

    My online business does not cater to the 12 to 17 demo at all unless they're actors looking to promote a project, so if I happen to gain followers in that age niche, they usually come from twitter. The only reason I'd join snapchat as a brand, is if I see an audience I can cultivate from it that's worth the time and effort. But I honestly see Instagram as a better option to target 18 to 25's than Snapchat.

    I agree and like your analysis.Most marketing campaigns very rarely target young adults because they are considered to not have money. I think that this is the wrong thing to do. Kylie Jenner made her almost billions from young adults who love her lip kit and somehow got the money to buy it. I would still use snap chat and target young adults, but I still would not quit Facebook, I agree that is where all the people are.
