Do content lockers put you off?

I've come across a few blogs in the past that have content lockers. For those of you who do not know what this is, a content locker hides the content of a particular article until you either share it on social media or sometimes until you pay a certain fee. Personally, I just close the site straight away because it's just off putting. There is usually only a tiny excerpt from the article and you really can't tell whether or not the article is worth paying that amount. I don't mind the social media sharing content lockers that much because it doesn't hurt you to share an article. Do content lockers put you off a certain website?

Yes they do! There is nothing worse then reading part of a article only to have someone try to extort you for reading the rest of the article. When ever that happens I leave right away and make a mental note of the website and I never return. No content is worth paying for because you can find the same content for free on google just by searching.

That is exactly what I do. I make sure to remember these sites because I never want to visit them again. They really annoy me especially since a few of them have awful content that doesn't deserve to be shared or paid for. And like you said, there will always be similar content on other sites that are as good or even better that is available for absolutely free.

I also take note of the website so I wouldn’t go back to it. A locked content is like a sort of ransom that you have to register before you can see what’s inside. I know of some forums like that. I had inquired from one local forum admin why guests could only access the home page and nothing more. The reason is the competition. With the stiff competition of 4 or 5 local forums of the same niche, it seems that they are vying for the most number of members.

Well, if i say it doesn't put me off, then am not being honest with my self. cause it’s annoying must times. But when i found out you locked your content, i immediately bounce your website with the speed of thought, no time. because they are many websites that offer that for free. But it's actually a good marketing strategy.

Yes, that would put me off immediately. I don't share anything on social media anyway, so I'm sure not going to share an article before I even read it. I'll just cut my losses and move on to a different source before I share or pay for content from a site that I'm not already a supporter of.

With so much information and so many articles and blogs already floating around the internet, I wouldn't think it would be in one's best interest to put a locker like that on their content. Unless they're an organization that's big enough to warrant such a move, I suppose.

I don't mind content locker if I want something for which I can't pay. If the content locker makes me pay then I don't think it'd be reasonable. I am ready to file the ads and the sign up forms. But not all content locker would be reasonable in that case. You can see that subscription based locks are lot better. This way one can get the support for their content. And also they can show reasonable output for the users as well. Not all people can have such content locks though.

There are some types of content lockers that I don't mind that much. I guess it would depend on the situation. If I'm in a hurry or desperate for a certain type of content and can't find it elsewhere, only to find out that the only place I can find it has a lock on it, then I would get frustrated. However, I do understand since people need to monetize the content they have, and I'd say it would be especially applicable if they are the one of the only few with that content then they should definitely take advantage where they can. Although, like I said, I still do feel frustrated about it sometimes. If the content is something I could just forget about or get somewhere else then I don't mind all that much.

Yea,people and their queer character,I sometimes wonder the benefits or is it for money making only.For my country,It quite bad,they're some sites can't even open.My ip would not be allow to access the content and this can be very annoying.

I don't think I have come across websites like that too often but I notice Amazon is doing something like that with the Washington Post. If you want to read the entire article you have to sign up for a subscription. They are pretty low cost though so I think I may renew my subscription for six months. I do see articles on there from time to time that I like to read.

Yeah, I absolutely hate the content lockers. They're beyond annoying and whenever I open a page with it, I close it right after

there's no way that I am registering or entering my email just to be able to read a simple article - I can return to Google or another search engine and re-enter my queries and shock, find hundreds of sites with open content.

I think that content locking websites lose a lot of potential traffic without even really realizing.

Yes I hate content lockers too! I get out of there super fast when I find one. Thanks good people don't put that very often but when they do I just won't share anything I don't know yet. I will just try to find similar content in some other page without the content locker.

This is the first time I’ve come across that term content locker. I am a regular blog reader and sometimes I search for other blogs that may be interesting to me. And although I have yet to encounter a blog with content locker, for sure, I would not touch that blog again with a ten-foot pole, so to speak. It looks like blackmail to me that in order to be able to read an article, you have to do something? Quickly to the exit for me.

Content locker is a big turn off for me. I never lock my contents and when I see content locked, I immediately leave the site. Unless the content is a course material that the publisher intends to sell, I don't think the content should be locked especially when the information is free online.
