Instagram is taking a new step in policing it's posts, and it's for the better. Instagram is now using machine learning that will help identify negative or hateful posts and actually block them. Instagram started to push out some filters that will help block not only negative and offensive content but spammy content and comments as well.
Machine learning isn't something new when it comes to websites, a lot more of them use this type of action than you would think. The way Instagram is using machine learning is pretty great because it shows that I won't get random image jackers, people who post their own promotions on my images, coming in and trying to take my followers.
You will have to activate this yourself, but it's not difficult. All you have to do is go to your comment settings and click "Hide Offensive Comments" and after that, Instagram will begin to block anything they deem as offensive or spammy. This will only help your posts be more of a communal conversation rather than someone arguing over what their favorite Kardashian is or what day of the week they prefer to sleep in on lmao 
Currently this is only available to the English language but should be opening up to other languages soon enough.
The problem with negative comments or content is that people get discouraged from using the app if they feel like they're being attacked. By turning on the machine learning system for your content, you will let people post with knowing they aren't going to be jumped on and called dumb for their opinions If you don't think the system is working, you can always turn off comments completely. Now you won't be able to get people adding their own tags or even tagging people within your posts, but sometimes it's worth it.
Not too long ago there was a feature launched by Instagram that allows you to filter out comments if they had certain keywords in them, which is awesome, but might not always work. This new feature allows you to not have to worry about what is going to be posted on your images because the machine learning system will only get better over time
There is another filter that runs in the background that will remove comments that are obviously spammy, but that's nothing new. This feature will remove something from your post or live videos if it is deemed spammy, and it's does it for the languages English, Spanish, Portuguese, French Japanese, Chinese, Russian and Arabic.
Implementing a machine learning system that will help safeguard a lot of things when it comes to using Instagram, it's a step forward in innovation. More and more companies will be doing this over time because of human error. Humans might miss something, but a machine is programmed to run hundreds of thousands of commands, much more than a human can do, and find anything that breaks the rules. If a comment breaks the rules, it's removed
These features started to roll out on Instagram in March when they started to blurr photos and videos that they saw as NSFW. This way they can keep some content and let people publish what they want, while also deleting hateful and spammy comments at the same time.
In conclusion:
Instagram is building a better place for all of it's users and contributers. They are making it a more enjoyable place for everyone with their new machine learning that will police all the spammy and hateful comments as well as the negative and NSFW posts It's only going to get better for everyone down the road
