Are you a small local business? Want to be a big local business? Well that's an obvious resounding yes! But the only way you're going to get to that level is by getting more clients and customers. And the only way you can get them is, well, there's a few things you can do, SEO and SMO for starters. Other than that, you'll need to generate leads! Leads are potential clients and customers that you can approach that can turn into a paying or subscribing client and customer. So to help with that, here's Top 10 Lead Generation Tips for Small Local Businesses.
1. Do Your Research
Before you can even make an attempt at generating new leads online today, you'll first need to do your homework! Or research even. You'll have to research things about your targeted audience so you can come to know who they are, what their age group and other demographics are. What are they looking for online? How are those people even conducting their searches? Knowing these things will help you to create a much better and more effective strategy to capture those leads before you can convert them into paying customers!
2. Use Paid Online Advertising
PPC (Pay Per Click) ads are one of the best ways to drive highly targeted traffic to your website over any other way such as through SEO which will take much longer. With a set of solid keywords and a monthly budget, you can place PPC ads using some Ad Network or system such as Google Ads or even Facebook Ads to capture the specific leads that are looking for the products and services that you provide in that local area.
3. Use Social Media to Connect with Potential Leads
Any and every niche will have people that are using social media and more and more businesses and people are using social media today to connect and interact with those local businesses in their area. If you are looking for your targeted audience, you can bet your back teeth a large portion of them will be using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn etc etc so you should absolutely set up profiles on these sties to start capturing them as potential leads.
4. Build a Targeted Email List
The money is in the list! That's what they say and they don't say it for no reason other than because that much is true. By getting people to subscribe to your email list, such as your email newsletter, it can be a great way to generate new leads. You'll have to offer something of value to them in exchange for them giving you their email address such as tips and tricks, free eBooks and things like that. Building a list is one of the best ways to generate leads today and any business not growing theirs is going to find it harder to succeed.
5. SEO
Through SEO, you can improve your rankings in the search engines so that your website ranks higher. But for your main targeted keywords and for those local keywords you want to target. Most people go online to search for something in their local area using a search engine like google today. So your website will need to show up high in the search results if you are to capture those people which when they land on your site, you can convert into clients. In the next part of this 2 part series I'll be talking about optimizing your local listing, educating, informing and solving problems, enhancing your site for conversions, considering paying for leads and following up with your current leads. Through these things, and knowing them, you'll know better how to actually generate leads for your business, and how to turn your current leads into actual paying customers and clients!
But for now, you have learned about why you should do your research first, and this is number #1 for the reason it's one of the most important things to do. How you can use PPC ads, using social media to connect to potential leads. Building an email list like a newsletter. And doing SEO and how it can help. As a small local business you should be doing at least one or two of these lead generating methods.

I feel like many small businesses fail already at your first point because they don't realise how important proper research is.
A good research and establishment of your target audience doesn't only drive more traffic but it will also have good conversion rates and save you money when it comes to advertising since you will be targeting the right crowd.
