    Hitting small goals is better than hitting big goals

    If you've read through a lot of my discussions here on SEOclerks you know that I plan out everything I do.  I will set up small goals that lead up to one big goal so that I can keep on track and keep my moral up while I'm working.  Hitting small goals along the way is like a milestone for me and I love hitting them Hitting small goals is better than hitting big goals  Even if these goals are to wake up before 10am every day Monday through Friday and begin working, If I wake up at 9:59 every day... Goal Achieved! 

    There's a big difference between big goals and small goals.  Sure the small goals can be achieved quicker than the big goals, but the small goals keep you on track so that you stay successful.  So you shouldn't push off the small goals since they help out too Hitting small goals is better than hitting big goals

    A few small goals I have every week are as follows:

    1. Increase my email list by 50.  I'm currently have 120, Goal Achieved!
    2. Write up 5 new posts for your blogs.  I'm currently at 12, Goal Achieved!
    3. Get 10 new Amazon Merch designs up and running.  I'm currently at 11, Goal Achieved!
    4. Find 1 new SEO and Online Marketing client.  I've gotten 1 so far, Goal Achieved!
    5. Help 10 people with questions and problems they're having.  I'm at like 100 lol... Goal Achieved!
    6. Do Better than last week.  I think I have, Goal Achieved!


    Now these are my small goals and I've achieved all of them already.  I do work on weekends so I sometimes let Saturday sneak in there if I haven't hit all of my goals and I need some extra time lol.  The hardest thing that I set for myself is getting a new SEO client each week which can be pretty difficult sometimes.  I might not get a client for 3 weeks and then all of a sudden I get 10 inquiries in a single week lol.


    Some people will say that these are pointless little wins, but when I look at it I see that I'm achieving goals that are like building blocks for my future success.  For example, my Amazon Merch account can have up to 100 designs live at any given time.  This means that I can make a royalty from each sale that is made because of my designs, which is great Hitting small goals is better than hitting big goals  If I don't push myself to get my designs live and on Amazon, I don't have a chance to make money from that platform.  I do all my research and then design what I think will sell.  Then I optimized my listings and submit them to Amazon.  If they make a sale I will get $1 to $4 per sale because I don't price my shirts above $16.  With 100 listings I can easily make an additional $500 a month which will be passive after I get a bunch of designs up and running.  I know people making $3,000 to $5,000 a month on Amazon Merch, but they have 500+ designs active right now Hitting small goals is better than hitting big goals


    You need to set small goals so that you can achieve them.  Just setting up large goals will kill your moral because it could either take a long time to achieve them or you may not hit them at all and fail.  But if you hit 10 small goals while you fail your big goal, it won't be as much of a devastating blow and you can carry on Hitting small goals is better than hitting big goals



    In Conclusion:
    Set goals so that you can keep on track and keep your moral up.  You will never want to take a disappointing blow like failing a big goal that didn't have any small successful goals to get there.  Sure you failed, but at least you succeeded elsewhere Hitting small goals is better than hitting big goals

    Exactly! Small goals are such a nice little extra motivational boosts that you need every few days so it's important to set them up as well at the bigger ones. Bigger ones are served as a sort of ''end game'' achievement that you're trying to aim for. The small ones are set so you can reach the end game. They are tightly linked together.

    Only setting big goals is not a good idea because it can take months or years to reach them and you will start getting frustrated, losing focus and end up demotivating yourself.

    This is true indeed, but you could always think of the bigger goal but without putting too much pressure on yourself. This way you will keep working and achieving your smaller goals, but with time you might come up with a decent plan and aim higher. You just need to find a good balance between the two.

    I like having small and doable goals too, as it's more motivating when we tick them off from our list. I set big goals too, as they help me to stay focus on what I really want to achieve in a certain period, but having smaller and doable goals or action steps help me to focus on what I want to do daily or weekly. I enjoy planning and still learning how to plan better and be more productive. I like the last item in your goal, which is to do better than last week.

    Comparing the accomplishment of 1 big goals against 5 small goals, the latter is more attractive and rewarding than the former because the more you had accomplished, the better for the feeling. But we also have to accomplish the big goals sooner or later so perhaps it is better to do the big goals first so that we have the strength and the mind is still fresh and active.

    This is definitely very realistic!
    It can help you a lot, if you want to achieve success and your dreams.
    I only disagree with point 6 "Do Better than last week. I think I have, Goal Achieved!".
    Because if you have worked very hard on the previous week with little time to other stuff, you cannot repeat always that. After you reach an ideal level of work, the point 6 will be around 50%.

    if you are realistic, you should never make big goals. Instead, you should make small goals. Big goals are likely to fail, whereas small goals will definitely succeed. For example, if you aim of making $5000 per month from writing, you may not succeed. Earning that big amount is almost impossible. However, if you aim to make $10 a day, it is possible.

    Agree. When You set a big goal, very often You just fail to achieve that. When You set a small goal, You pave the way for achieving of big goal but gradually without too many efforts. For example, my goal of this month is to make 100$ per month, for the next month I am planning to hit 150$.

    Yes I also find working towards smaller goals much more rewarding and keeps you motivated. I make the habit to strategies a bigger goal into smaller steps and making those smaller steps towards my bigger goal the smaller goals I work to achieve.

    Yep. Totally agree with your comment. I have lived through my own experiences that aiming for big goals can be frustrating, seeing that you do not get them as fast as the ones you set out to achieve in many, but small steps.

    The important thing is that each small goal that you propose is a piece of the puzzle that you are putting together that is the final goal.

    Yes I'm in support, archiving small goals and surpassing them is a great step to being successful. Also, it is important not to set the bar too high for yourself, although there's no limit what you can archive, but in order for consistency to be archived, the bar must be set at average. It is better to exceed expectations than not to meet up. Also bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other.

    I think that we should both set up big goals and small goals and write them down on a piece of paper.

    The reason is that big goals can help you to know what your main goals are and help remind yourself at any time. Then you can write on another page which lists the subgoals of each main goal in point form. Then the small goals should be much easier to achieve and set them with time limit.

    I think both the big goals and small goals can help us much better achieve our goals if stated clearly and should be within our ability.

    That is why I make it a habit to do small tasks continuously instead of setting large goals that will in the end stress me just by remembering them. It is easy to just do your thing and let it become a habit. With time, one would be surprised at the accomplishment.

    Small goals are what keeps a person motivated. If you constantly set high standards you will end up burning out in the long run. This will mainly be due to the constant stress.

    Those are some good incremental goals, I like to set mine like that as well. Instead of having a big goal that seems unattainable and out of the realm of possibility I set up smaller ones that are easily achievable short-term asl ong as I put the work in. It gets me motivated and willing to work harder.

    I am old-fashioned, but I still make a little list everyday, with boxes to check off, of things I need to do. The smaller things and smaller goals, although we are all focused on the bigger picture and the ultimate completions, are what give us the immediate and subsequent rewards we need in order to keep up our confidence and our sense of purpose and direction. Completing small goals on a regular basis keeps me more focused, actually, on the long term rewards they accumulate into.

    setting small goals to achieve in a no distance time is the way to go.you will be able to apply effectiveness and efficiency in trying to achieve them than a big goal.

    i start my day with what I want to achieve for my blogs .list the means of achieving them and follow them up strictly and I do more than 90% of them before retiring for the day and sincerely these small steps add up to give me an achievement for my desired goal.

    I think that is people's biggest mistake and I am guilty of it too. You set your sights up on huge numbers and when you don't get it you give up and close the website down. So for now I am shooting for small goals and working my way up. I think it's also really important to have a long term goal but you want the short term goals to lead you into the long term goal.

    When I was in college, our professor in psychology class told us about goals. That it is important to have a big goal, the biggest actually like getting a successful career or getting a perfect lifetime partner. However, you also need the small goals to get you going. Like a weekly goal or even a daily goal that you strive to achieve, it will inspire you to move towards your big goal in life. And achieving a small goal will give you a sense of accomplishment which is a nice feeling.
