Google Search Image Duplicate Detection

Simply changing things like: file name, image size, add a boarder, or even a quick watermark are not going to do the trick.

I was reading about Google Search's image duplicate detection capabilities, and an article said the above. So, now I'm wondering, what things does Google Search check when determining if an image is a duplicate?

That is an interesting question indeed. Well, I guess if you don't use any sort of software that might change certain traces in the image, that's how. Certain websites can easily tell what was used to take your pictures, edit them and such. If they are using similar technology with more in-depth search for such traces or whatever they might be, I guess that's where the answer lies.

I remember reading something about this long time ago, not about google search, but image theft and such, and they did mention something that was inside the very file that would give it up. I don't remember what it was though.

I think Google has the capability to check for duplicate images since it is not that complex. However, when you deliberately want to escape detection that you will edit the duplicate image then I guess Google has no way of detecting it. From what I understand with the image checking of Google, it is the simple comparison of the 2 images in question. And when the evaluation result is not exact then it will not be considered a duplicate image.
