Mike explained it really well. RSS is just very underutilized, at least in my opinion. I feel like it lost a bit of popularity lately but it's still an extremely useful tool that doesn't get the recognition it deserves.

Two more options that Mike didn't list but are really good - FeedWrangler and Inoreader. Both are fairly easy to use and fast, so if you're interested in feed readers, check those two out.

Well Erika my angel friend, firstly fair play for asking! RSS = Really Simple Syndication. And that's what it was created for. As a way of being able to access information in the most simplest, purest, rawest format possible. As a way for people to subscribe to their favourite websites latest posts and everything else in their feed in a standardised way such as with a Feed Reader like the old Google Reader or or some other one like Feedly, NewsBlur, FeedBin, Inoreader etc. These are all individual RSS feed subscriber apps but some feeds also let you subscribe in your browser and even by email notification etc so you don't have to use an RSS feed app.

Another benefit and reason for a website to have an RSS feed other than letting people subscribe to it in different ways is that it's also coded in a computer-readable format so that Search Engine bots/spiders/crawlers can access them and read them and then display them in their Search Results or as a way to find/crawl it's way around that site but Google only crawls so deep depending on the authority of your site anyway.

As for your "What is RSS solves a problem for people who regularly use the web?" question. Do you mean what if? Or do you mean how does RSS solves regular web users problems? TBH, we could live without feeds, we would just find another way lol. But's it one of those things that's nice to have and not need than it is to need and not have if ygm!

You took your time to explain this and I have learnt so much about the need for a RSS for a website! It is one of the ways that I can get to really enjoy some good benefits of having it on a website as it helps to get things working pretty fine.

RSS feed is an attractive way to update your subscriber with the latest posts on a blog. My favorite RSS feed program is FeedBurner. You can publish your update links to social media but it looks nice to use RSS feed too.

You can get done with the update alerts without it. I have shared the link of RSS of all my blogs and it is easy for a visitor to subscribe to it.

I have heard about RSS when I was a co-blogger but I did not have the opportunity to delve on it because I think it was the blogger’s responsibility. Now it is getting clearer to me that RSS is some kind of a syndicated tool that helps your readers find your blogs. Unfortunately, I need to see an example to fully understand the mechanics of the RSS because it is getting me confused.

Where there is need to bring the blog that you are working on to the general public to be able to access it quite easily, I think that is the point where you should be talking about this RSS. It helps the visitors to have an easy access to those sites as well.
