    I have purchased an SSL Certificate for my gaming website. Although the game doesn't have many players, it offers some security to those that have purchased game perks. I have also heard that having an SSL certificate can boost SEO rankings, but I'm unsure just how much is the boost, if any at all. Since I have placed the SSL certificate I have noticed that more people are wiling to purchase services. If you are using Paypal, and they redirect back to your website and it doesn't have a SSL certificate then a popup message will appear informing the user that they are sending data on an unsecure website and that is never good!

    That is just the thing. When you are selling products or offering any service on the internet, there is always need to secure your website. This way, buyers can have 90% confidence that nothing is going to happen once they buy anything from the website.

    Thanks Mike, well I think the fact that Google openly admitted that websites with an SSL Certificate will rank slightly better is already a huge bonus for me.

    And faster loading time, yes it sounds like it is time to get my websites moved to https right?

    I just get a little confused by things like this, so say for example I have loads of backlinks now pointing to http, how will this all be affected when I move to https? Sorry, it is probably a stupid question but I don't know the answer!

    I actually read on another website that having SSL makes your website load slower but I guess where your website is hosted with makes a difference. I recently installed a SSL Certificate on my forum and hopefully it will bring in some benefits.

    I will admit that I don't understand the “technical ins and outs” of HTTP versus HTTPS. But I have blogs and websites with both. They have been online for several years and I didn't want to break them by doing the wrong thing trying to make a change for the better. But when I do a generic search I can clearly see the impact on the rankings for those sites having HTTPS. Spoken as a true non-geek.

    I understand that an HTTPS is supposed to be secured but I want to know the difference of its security features versus that of the HTTP. Is the HTTPS safer from virus attack or just the same that you need an anti-virus for that concern? I am asking such questions because our home desktop is running on Windows XP that there are HTTPS sites that the Chrome browser couldn’t open. What we do is to use Mozilla Firefox to access the said HTTPS site which is a hassle for us.

    People will definitely trust your website when they noticed that it is secured. I don't think that I will feel free to do anything on website that are not SSL mainly when we are talking about financial transactions. There is always that need to have that trust in the visitors to your website that you are stable and ready to help always.
