    Timing is everything. When to email/message potential clients with discount offers?

    Timing is everything. Perhaps not everything, but at least it's very important when it comes to sales, freelancing and business in general.

    That being said, I recently published a topic about: "Christmas Gifts/X-Mas gifts for regular clients. - What do you think?" - And this time, we'll go beyond that.

    Let's say that you will have offer huge discounts or something like that..

    Would you:
    A - Let your potential clients & clients know about this before Christmas?
    B - Tell your clients and potential clients about this after Christmas?

    And would you:
    A - Tell your clients and potential clients about this before New Years Eve?
    B - Let them know about this offer after New Years Eve?


    Let me hear your thoughts about this.

    I would run different discounts and sales at different times.

    I would do a before Christmas sale, a New Years Eve Sale, a New Years day sale and then a little while later in January another sale.

    Each one would target different products so it isn't the same boring sale.

    I take my self as a customer or client.I will be appreciative if my seller make discount or put up a Better deal every celebration period. So if you can do this all the time better but for your question.I think it will be better before each season I.e before Christmas and before new year.

    Timing is indeed another factor in making offers, especially discount offers. Generally, life changes every three months, so is the need of a person. It's better to know their potential needs before making offers. It will give an idea on what should be offered and when is the best time for it. For the Christmas and New Year offer, my answer to your question is I will let the clients know about my discounts before these seasons come. Obviously, people will need to buy gifts that time. I'll do it as early as November because some people here receive their 13th month bonus as early as November 15. This will give them a heads up on my upcoming discount offers and this will give them time to prepare their budget for it. This caters their needs at the right time.

    I have a strong connection with almost all my clients when it comes to the issue of communication and I must tell you that before I embark on any break, I let them know a week beforehand so that we plan how things will be. That does not affect our communication but will contribute to the work I do for them.

    I think make it a newsletter. Because if you use words like sale, discount etc then Gmail will put you into marketing tab. And that may means you are going to miss out on the messages. So better to be very careful how you're promoting the discount and sales. I have seen many people making use of the mail messages to get the people on some landing page. And it does work out from what I have seen so far. It looks like a good source of traffic.

    This reminds me of my business when there was no internet yet. A boutique is very dynamic with sales during the Christmas season which starts here by the first week of December. Boutique owners like me would be installing a poster in the middle of November to trumpet the upcoming sale by the first week of December. That never fails to bring business because buyers come with the resolve to buy. In preparation for Christmas, some consumers buy early because the prices go up as Christmas nears.
