So I've been working on a marketing scheme for one of my websites to generate sales and I was thinking about doing something that I've done in the past because it works very well. What I like to do is set up websites that offer free services, which are automated, in order to build my lists and generate sales.
Now you're thinking "Wait, you said a free service? How are you making sales?" well that's pretty simple. I don't sell anything on the free service website actually, but I do have banners linked to my sales pages on other websites 
That way I can market these free service websites independently and make a sale on anyone who clicks through to my other website(s)
The trick to doing this is to find out what people really want in your niche and if you can afford to get it done easily and cheap. What I like to do is think of a service that I would like to see, for free, and then I'll go over to themeforest.net and codecanyon.net to see if there is anything on there that has all the features, or more, of what I want done. Usually there are some good things on those websites that can get your wheels spinning and you can even contact the designer for some custom work. A few times I've done this and the programmer has charged me pennies compared to what I thought it would have cost Other times they want a ridiculous amount and I have to back off to see if I can find a programmer somewhere else for cheaper.
This does take a lot of time to get everything going since you'll have to do an individual marketing campaign for your new free service website. But in the end, if you did it right, you should be able to sit back and watch the traffic come in because people love sharing free service websites on social media and forums So your traffic becomes your marketers in the end You will have to hit the website with an SEO boost every couple months, but that's pretty normal with any website

I wonder how do you get the traffic on the free services website in the first place? Do free services have a lot more searches compared with paid services on any specific niche or do you need to find the right match and glue everything together?
I don't want to push you into giving us all of your secrets but I do want to hear more about your whole process.
