    Work in clean and quiet environments will make it easier to work?

    If you're working in clean and quiet environments, do you think you will find it easier to work?

    Distractions will often come and go, especially as a "work-from-home" person. Kids or other things will and most likely will distract you. - However, if you clean your desk and shut the door or whatever, do you think you'll get more things done compared to working with all the garbage piling up on your desk?

    I can't personally really see why a little bit of garbage would affect your work. But I can definitely see how working in a rather quiet environment would have an affect on your work. - But just the thing about a bunch of papers, a coffee mug or whatever on your desk? - I can't see why that would hurt your work.

    Hey cleanliness is next to Godliness right? Work in clean and quiet environments will make it easier to work? Our lives are directly connected to the state we're living in. In the same way as you de-clutter your mind from things, you're able to think more clearly. If you de-clutter your room or working environment, you'll be able to work better. If you have rubbish lying around. Bits of scrap paper, empty packets and tubs and things all over the place, you'll not work as efficiently as you would if you was working in a clean and tidy room.

    Have you ever heard the expression "A mans desk is a reflection of his personality"? It's true. And one way of telling what someone's personality is like is by taking a look at his desk. If it's an untidy and unorganized desk, that mans life is also probably going to be untidy and unorganized too. But if his desk is clean and tidy and organized, it's likely that his life is also going to be tidy and organized too.

    Actually it was Einstein that said "If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what, then, is an empty desk a sign?"

    I find it easier to work in a clean and tidy room. If I have empty mugs and plates and other rubbish in my room I get itchy pants lol and have to tidy up and put stuff away. Once that's all done, my mind is free to think on what I want to think on instead of thinking, I really need to clean up and put that away or put this away. So definitely having a clean and tidy workspace will increase your workflow and productivity. Work in clean and quiet environments will make it easier to work?

    Oh yes I have to agree with you Mike, but my situation is different and hard. I can't wait till I start really coining it so I can have a full time maid.

    I can't keep up with work and cleaning up after my kids, seriously it is impossible! Even after the maid has been here in the morning, I get home with my kids and by the time my hubby gets home he asked me why the maid never pitched... ouch!

    LOL are you serious Lynne? About getting a maid I mean? I guess if you're pulling in millions then yeah, needs and musts, but otherwise you can't ever forget that you'll always be Jenny from the block! Work in clean and quiet environments will make it easier to work? No more power to you!

    Oh yes, I am totally serious Mike. I have a lady come and clean 2 mornings a week and she must thing I run a nut house here. I want her to come every day!

    I tend to be very aware of my surroundings. I am always fussing around wanting to see everything in order and properly stored away. Before I start working I make sure that I have completed some basic daily tasks of cleaning up a bit as otherwise I do not manage to concentrate well. With regards to quietness, I work best when I am all alone. However I cannot always have that luxury as I work from home. I have learnt to work even surrounded by noise, but I end up taking longer to complete a task than I would if I were to be alone and quiet.

    Yes I know what you mean about working in noise, I have also managed to learn how to work with blocking out everything that is going on around me. It takes some time to get to that point and I have had a lot of very frustrating work days...but now I just tune out and work.

    I have had a few people how I manage it but when you have to work and the household is noisy, you just have to do it!

    Oh yes, for instance, in the case of the summer holidays... that's the worst time of the year! So I try to establish a time when I get at least an hour of quiet time. Sometimes I have them watch TV in the sitting room, or read, or play a game in their bedroom, because otherwise I just end up having a whole day in a noisy environment which is very demotivating :/

    Yes, I work better when working in a clean and quiet environment so when before I start work, I will clean up my room and once I start work, I will close the door and have silence in my room. I think this just gives me maximum concentration which gives me maximum efficiency. If my room is dirty, it sometimes makes me a bit hard to concentrate.

    LOL Andre your post has made me laugh. You think a little bit of garbage won't make much of a difference to work productivity? I can promise you that it does. I have a lady that cleans two mornings a week but otherwise I do my own household chores every day. The problem is that no matter how much time and effort I spend on cleaning, with these two kids my house always looks like a bomb has just exploded.

    When I get home from dropping my kids at play school in the morning I get home and look at the mess and I have to choose to work or to clean... I almost always choose to work because I only have 3-4 hours until I have to pick up my kids. It really bothers me though!

    It is difficult to write when there are distractions. When I am using our home desktop, no one makes a noise otherwise they will be scolded. But when our dogs bark, oh, I have to stop working because I lose my concentration. Now that we have a laptop, I can work inside the bedroom to have full privacy. That makes my work easier.
