Hey guys,
I just thought I'd share a few lame client excuses to get better deals or discounts.
First of all, we have these sort of things. Short and to the point.
"I don't have more than $XX right now. Can I get it?"
"I can't afford it right now, but I will pay you later if I get it now."
Then we have the more "advanced" one, which often looks like this:
"I wonder if you're able to give me a discount for recurring orders? - I have many clients and I need to find a good supplier. Before I decide, I'll need to make sure that you deliver excellent quality, so I would like a test run, or at least a good discount for this first order."
The thing is, that we as freelancers often take risks and we do it even more as soon as we hear the "magic words". - Those words would obviously be "recurring customer" "tons of future orders" etc.
And buyers are aware of this too. - Which is why some of them will do whatever they can, or say whatever they can, to get freebies. - Don't fall for it!
"Please Sir. I will give you a very good review if I can get this for $X instead of $XX. I don't have all the money right now, but if I get this from you, I will appreciate it very much and I will give you a perfect feedback after so you will get many orders after this one. I will always like you after this and I will buy from you forever after this. What do you say? Can you help me? Thanks."

Oh yes, I've heard every excuse and empty false promise under the sun in the book! I sometimes get people that order and say "[b]If you do a great job for me I will order again straight after[/b]" So I do and deliver it. Then they go AWOL and you never hear from them again. Or they return several months later and purchase and then ask for a discount code. But when they say that, 9/10 it's just a ploy to get you to work on their order and to provide them with some bonus extras. Then when you deliver it, they don't even leave their feedback! It's like they laugh on the other side of their face and inwardly think you're a mug for doing a great job for them when they had no intention of placing repeat orders in the first place. I've never fully been able to understand that. I've never done that myself. If I will genuinely have lots of orders, the seller will know it because I'm placing those orders. I wont tell them that I'll have lots of orders for them. I just place the orders as and when I need them. It would only be sometime after placing lots of orders that I will approach the seller and then ask for some form of discount code maybe. But only if I know for sure that I'm going to be placing lots of orders with them and the price isn't something like $1 per order. For those small priced orders I don't even ever bother asking for a discount code as there isn't really much point. For some services though, like those that are $20+ I might. But only if I know I'm definitely going to be placing more orders with them. I wouldn't say something like "[b]Please give me a discount code as I will have many orders[/b]" before I've even ordered anything though. That would just be annoying and more frugal than I care to be! But that's people for you and there's all sorts of them in the world. And online too! :)
