Can anyone explain to me why people refer to "aged social media accounts"? I have seen this quite often that a seller says that they will promote your content on an aged social media account.
Does this mean that that social media account somehow packs more link juice? Or is this meant that the account is trusted more and holds more authority because it is obviously not a "fly by night" account.

Think of it like this, which social media account would you trust in more if someone added you; one that was only 2 days old and had 0 friends, posts, updates, pictures, likes etc. Or one that was 2 years old and had 200+ friends and posts, updates, pictures, likes etc?
In the same way a business profile on a social media site like a Fanpage that has more fans, more updates, posts and has been around a lot longer and has a lot more engagement on it would have a lot more trust and carry more clout with people when they visit it.
Social media sites are high authority sites and getting links from them, (although mostly no follow) can still carry through a lot of weight and have a positive effect on your rankings. And of course, the older a link is, the older a post is on a social media site, the more value it has in the eyes of a Search Engine. As you know, age can play a massive role in rankings. That's why it's sometimes really hard to outrank a competitors site even though their site is rubbish and you have better content/traffic/engagement/links than them. The age of their site is taken into consideration by Google more than their backlinks on some occasions.
In the same way, old, aged and matured social media accounts, pages and profiles can be better than newly created pages when it comes to taking advantage of that for your own site. It's always best to get try and get links from aged social media sites. And in fact, that could be another great discussion as well. How to get links from aged social media accounts?
Buying aged Tumblr accounts is one way. But not everyone has them and they're not cheap for what they are most time. Plus that can land you in hot water if you're caught by Google buying them and can put you on Google's naughty list! lol
But so the best thing to do is build loads of your own now. Then just sit on them. Obviously it's good to work on them as well. Randomly occasionally adding content to them. Getting them shared on other pages, profiles and accounts as well so that it increases it's inbound links from the same site.
Again that's another great discussion to have as well. How to make insanely powerful social media backlinks by interacting on those sites in such a way as to build internal-links to your site. In fact you'll want to do this anyway as the last thing you want to do is create what's known as "Orphan Pages" which are basically just dormant pages and do nothing for your credibility but there's a technique usually with each social media site or even a forum where you can build really powerful backlinks by doing that I'll have to do a post on it later.
