    Do you offer your clients discounts and "special deals" regularly?

    Freelancers,
    Special deals, discounts and one time offers are great ways to rake in sales, establish new business relations, gain more customers and build reputation and credibility..

    And it's widely used on Black Friday and after Christmas Eve for instance.

    I've also often found out that different stores actually raise their prices just before Christmas and lower the prices again after Christmas, so customers who's going to shop after Christmas actually pays the same amount as they would've done a few weeks before Christmas. - Anyhow, that's another story.

    What I wonder is, do you offer your clients some kind of special deals or discounts, and do you offer them this regularly?

    I offer discounts for bulk orders. I sometimes put some services on sale too. I used to this often when I first started as I needed to motivate people to check out my services and place an order. In time, I decreased the regularity of such deals simply because I have very little time to accept new orders at lower prices since I am too busy with regular orders at the normal/standard rates. However should I have a period when I am short of orders, or running low on them, I always opt for a sale or discounted prices.

    Sounds like you have a pretty nice thing going on there EliteWriter. I'm also one of those people who offered a bunch of different "special deals" and discounts when I sold social media services. Even though I offered my services at a bargain deal, I still went with some "package deals" or discounts every now and then, and especially to my long-term clients.

    When it comes to articles, I've often heard people offering 3 for 2 deals and as far as 10 for 5 etc. Is that a common thing amongst your competitors? - Do you know anything about it?

    Just seems like something that is truly a "super-special-deal" to me.

    I normally offer discounts to clients when things goes wrong and occasionally I will provide discounts for special events but not all the time. I The reason is because I have done this regularly inthe past and I find that it doesn't really help your sales so I kind of gave up with this idea. However, it may have just been a coincidence that it didn't work for me so I may try again and try to offer more bargins.

    I also provide discounts for bulk orders but I feel like people normally buy in smaller amounts regardless of the discounts.

    I can see why you would think that MasterA, or that this is in fact the reality in your scenario. The type of service is what matters here. If you provide social media services for instance, they're often cheap and people buy them in bulk all the time. To offer discounts for these services is an incredible way to gain more orders. Especially recurring customers, as long as you provide high quality.

    Oh I have so seen all the shops do that Andre! They raise all their prices by a huge amount and then sell them at even higher than the normal rate "on special" just before Christmas... and yes after Christmas they have those end of range sales too. That is when you can pick up some nice bargains though since some shops have a lot of excess stock. That is a great time to grab really cheap Christmas decorations, wrapping paper and cards since the stores can do nothing with them but keep them in stock for a whole year. But for me I am happy to keep it for a year, since it makes the following festive season so much cheaper!

    I like to offer discounts to my subscribers, so I always send them coupon codes via email.

    Well no as much as I would like to do it. I should make a discount to every past seller that bought from me and was happy with my services but for some reason made just one order. Contacting them and offering a discount can actually work great for both parties involved and most of the clients will thank you a lot for the special attention.

    So yeah, definitely do this kind of stuff, but offer a real discount, don't just up the prices just to have what to discount later.

    You nailed it Cristian! - Offer real discounts. If you increase the prices to offer people a discount, so they literally buy the service at the normal price, then you'll have your back up against the wall in no time.

    This is actually quite common, but people don't usually "forgive" such behavior, so you'll risk negative feedback, and that could possibly endanger your whole business. So keep it simple, and true.

    I do offer clients some discounts. I also add some value in such case. It all depends on how much regular client is. And what are some things we can do to make things better. You can find that it can be harder to manage that in some cases. Some clients like discounts and for some clients it'd be better to consider flat rate. So depending on my rush I try to manage those things.

    offering special prices and discounts every now and then would mean that you want to sell your services at such a low price. What is always do is to, once in a while, give some kind of discounts to most of my loyal clients during a period so as to encourage them to continue patronizing my services in the long-run.
