What can an SEO do when link building is not an option?

I have a lot of clients both from freelancing but also at my day job that simply don't want to pay for link building services nor buying adversarial from trusted and high authority sources.

The understand the technical aspects of SEO, especially on-page SEO but simply can't understand what off-page SEO actually means and how much it can help them on the long run. Most of them are expecting fast results and they consider SEO as a technical thing that just needs to be implemented and top ranks will follow.

Do you guys know any tricks on getting better ranks for pages with low authority?

At the moment I'm improving all their articles, removing duplicates and similar articles redirecting them to bigger and better content. I followed every article optimization trick an SEO can implement and I actually got good results rising in ranks from an average position of 70 to an average position of 20.

But I'm running out of ideas, what more can I do for them from a technical point of view without wasting time on building backlinks because they aren't paying me for that.

Sheer content alone can often outrank sites with great backlinks and SEO. This discussion has been going for a long time and there are many case samples out there that can testify to this. For when people just don't understand how to do SEO and link building, but they do know how to churn out amazing high quality content articles. By doing that alone, consistently, they can sometimes outrank competitor sites that have a lot of age and high authority backlinks! The good thing about content is you can use it to target certain keywords, and if that content is better than your competitors, that can often outrank those competing articles by quality of content alone. Even when their articles have a lot of social signals and lots of SEO done on them. In fact, that can even hamper their ranking results sometimes. I would say, if they don't want to do SEO or any link building, then to just focus on churning out amazing high quality articles on their site and using it to target many of the keywords, long tail keywords and the like in their industry. Eventually, they'll start seeing results from just that alone! Eventually.

Yeah Mike, I totally agree with you on this. A lot of the time I don't order any backlinking or off page SEO services yet my content in general ranks very well.

I am now in the process of juicing up my websites by ordering some SEO services from my man BarryInSiam and I am so excited to see how things are going to be moving up!

Based on my experience, I can say if you have high-quality content with proper keywords and meta tags, you can rank higher even if you do not have backlinks from authoritative sites. Content is the king and your first priority should always be on publishing high-quality contents and publishing contents frequently. Title is very important, having a long tail search term as the title of your content helps you more than backlinking your content.

Oh wow, why would they not be interested in link building? I mean really one of the biggest and most important aspects of off page SEO would be building quality links right?

I am really interested to see what all the SEO experts here say on this topic. I don't build many backlinks myself, I usually order services here for that. I concentrate on my on page SEO, email marketing, social media marketing and video marketing. The rest I outsource.

This is going to be a great topic.

Well they just aren't they see SEO as a strictly technical implementation, they don't really think link building can help them, even though I've written extensive content about the benefits of link building for my clients as well as simple presentation to make them understand the benefits and effects of backlinks.

If link building is not an option, I think the best alternative to link building is generating social signals. You need to share the contents on various social media and get social signals. Social signals help in better positioning of your website. More social signals mean higher position on SERP.

Link-building is one great way of getting traffic since the public can see your link and there’s the chance that someone will click it. But with SEO, I still go for the content is king motto. Uploading fresh contents regularly will give your website a semblance that it is active since having no new contents may give an impression that it is a dead site so the search engine will not bother with it. And if the new content is well-written and directly relevant to the niche of the site then you are on a better position than those link-building that you did.
