Drug Addiction Blog Ranking so well!

I just wanted to share my progress with my drug addiction blog and its rankings.

I started my drug addiction blog because I am a drug addict in recovery. I spent 15 years in active addiction wrecking my life and I wanted to share with others what happened to me, how I got clean and how I stay clean.

So that was my first goal - an outlet for my passion to help other addicts and their families. To educate people about drug addiction.

So anyway life got in the way of my little hobby, because I need to eat right? I need to make money and I need to work on my money making websites.

So anyway this year I suddenly saw some money coming in from Adsense from my addiction blog so I was pleasantly surprised. Just out of interest I went to have a look at my Google Analytics.

I was not expecting anything great because at that time I had literally not posted anything new on my addiction blog. I kept wanting to, but I was so busy with my other 2 websites that I never got to it.

Imagine my surprise and happiness seeing that the website I mostly ignored was growing in rankings without me doing a single thing!

It turns out Google just loves this website! It doesn't have a huge amount of content on it, and I don't do a huge amount of marketing or work on it.

Here is a screenshot of my Organic Traffic to this website since January to yesterday.

Ok and do you see that huge spike in the last few days? Well when I saw how my organic traffic was growing without me doing a thing I thought what if I do something? How about adding some more posts, what about writing an eBook like I have always thought about?

Well I just did it and it is doing well. I wrote about it on my website and Google loves it and so does my readers.

I have heard a number of people saying that if you want to blog, blog about whatever you are passionate about and forget about the money.

Just goes to show that there might just be something in that right? Because I put the least amount of effort in and while I am not exactly raking in the cash on this website I can see the huge potential here!

Also maybe drug addiction is a popular niche?

Nice organic traffic you got the Lynne! Nice big spike as well as a huge rise recently, do you know the keywords you are ranking for? Or you just posted a couple of articles and hoped for the best?

I know you have a tool for researching keywords but do you got any tools for keeping an eye on your ranks and for which keywords you rank for? The sudden spike increase in organic traffic means you are ranking very well for keywords with an important number of monthly searches, which this is what SEO is all about. Good Job!

Cristian I always do keyword research for all my posts on all my websites and I also do my own on page SEO. It has become like second nature for me so yes of course that plays a huge role!

But I do this for all my websites. If I leave my other websites and I don't post for a few weeks then my rankings go down. However for this website everything just keeps getting stronger even though I hadn't posted a thing for over 6 months!

That's the power of age for you! That and a bit of luck!

When enough things fall into the right places, in time, even small thin sites can start to rank for things. And that's obviously a super massive niche of which there are many people looking online for answers to their problems. Looking for insight and tips on how to stop and the like. Those same people probably visit and read many different sites in this area as they are looking for just that, don't find it on one site, then move to another and another and so on, looking for the answers, or just something to give them some peace of mind and to help them live a better, more victorious life!

And I'd like to say that Google is realizing this, that your blog can offer that kind of helpful advice to people. And is thusly rewarding you for that by ranking your blog high for those people. Of course, Google doesn't work like that, it can't think for itself like that (yet), but what it can do is look at your content and the keywords within it, look at the age of your blog and it's off-page SEO and the like, and then decide that your site is one of the most relevant sites that the searcher is looking for.

But this is blogging! This is why people blog! This is why you launch those niche sites in a niche that you are passionate about. And it's okay, there is no rush! Just keep going and let it age and age is one of the best ranking methods around and often outranks even longer content by just age of it alone. Also CTR plays a large role too, so the more click throughs you get, the more click throughs you'll get again as Google sees that people are visiting your site and eventually suggests it to people higher and higher in the SERPs because of so.

So congrats and good luck down the line. This could be a real cash cow and bread winner for you.

Thanks MIke. It is so exciting because now I can see how I can really help people and make an income doing it too! That is just so exciting.

It is also encouraging me to now just get on with writing my other eBooks since my first eBook in that niche has sold so nicely. I just can't wait to get stuck into it now.

Man Lynne this is great! The traffic you are getting seems really good and you are converting so that means a lot! Fifteen years seems like a lifetime when your dealing with those kind of issues. I think many people deal with addiction and you have a big base of potential clients for this type of book. I know especially in the state of NH here we have a big drug problem and we don't really have a good program to help these people. Your book is going to help so many people all over the world and with the rite marketing you could probably sell this thousands of times. Have you looked for blogs and other websites that cover this kind of thing? Maybe you can reach out to the owners and have them feature your book. I am willing to resell it and im sure many people will do the same to give you book more visibility. Check it out see what else you can do to take your book and your sales to the next level.

Thanks Jkeyz2, yes I am busy with figuring out ways to even further increase my reach.

When you think I have only 8 pages and 22 posts on this website it is amazing the rankings that I am getting. I am so chuffed and excited to see where this takes me.

Good for you that your blog is getting a good ranking. I guess drug addiction is a current hot issue especially in our country because our president had waged a war against illegal drugs. Thousands of addicts are already arrested and some killed by the anti-drug police. Maybe your blog can be an eye opener to present addicts and also to those who do not use drugs. At least they can be informed of the dangers of using drug particularly the addiction that it can cause.
