    Which internet broswer consumes less RAM memory especially when mulitple tabs are open at same time

    I make use of Seamonkey browser and i notice that when i open multiple tabs (say, 6 and above) while browsing, my RAM meter begins reading upto 100%. I use an HP laptop with a 2GB RAM.
    But please i want to know which browser is the best to use in terms of low RAM memory consumption and also uses less processing CPU speed?
    Is it cometbird or firefox or chrome or explorer or which one?
    Please i all need your help on this?

    I've never used seamonkey, currently I'm using only chrome and mozilla. Now according to your question, mozilla eat less ram than chrome but the performance between them has too much difference, chrome it will consume more memory but it's more faster than mozilla. On the other side Mozilla need less ram and it can run perfectly on any old computer with low specs. Both of them have its cons and pros, for example some addons that I need are not available on Chrome, so due to that I'm using them both. In the end, 2GB of ram it's not that bad, but if you want to avoid freezing and browser crashes problem consider to upgrade your ram at least to 4GB.

    Thanks for yor response. maybe from the look of thing , i may join you guys to start using mozilla firefox browser to see if it will save some RAM Memory for me.

    Hi chetaseo.

    As I have understood, Opera is the web browser with less memory consumption. Is a good browser that implements the same rendering engine that Google Chrome (Blink, WebKit based).

    Personally I use Mozilla Firefox, but if you need a lightweight browser I think that Opera is a good option.

    Also, you can check Midori, other great alternative (WebKit based and Open Source).

    Hi chetaseo thanks for your question. I have been using Google chrome and Mozilla Firefox for several reasons. For me both is best among all browsers. And between both browser, I think Firefox need less space or ram than chrome. When question about faster browser, I should say Google chrome ever best from me. I used may tab at a time on chrome but I never see any error on there. On the other hand fire fox working not too fast when you open several tab. But for facility of add-ons, fire fox much better the all other browser. That is why I use both browser for several factors.

    Actually i was making use of that firefox but i later stopped and switched to seamonkey , now i may surely return back to firefox since it is what is winning here with almost everyone recommending it. presenting i also use chrome too but seldomly.     I have to check this sea monkey browser our. I have a lot of experience with Opera, Chrome, and Morzilla. I usually have over 50 tabs open in chrome and i use about 8GB or more of ram. My system is 32GB ram 3.5GHZ I7 Processor with a SSD. I rarely have problems running anything but i would like to still cut down on the resources i use. What kind of experience do you have with sea monkey how much ram do you use with it? Im curious to see the difference because if i can open up over 100 tabs i need to start using it. Sometimes Chrome crashes when i have to many tabs open. Morzilla use to be great before most of their funding came from Google Inc.

    Both Chrome and Mozilla Firefox use a lot of RAM memory, Chrome used to be awful but for some time now I noticed a huge improvement in Chrome's stability and RAM consumption, maybe because I upgraded my laptop to 8GB of ram and a SSD but still, Chrome improved a lot love the years and I found no reason to go back using Firefox or searching for another browser option.

    I did some research and Opera seems to be the lightest browser around, so maybe try it and let us know.

    Thanks guys for everything you've shared in this thread. The OP posed a good question and for which I was not fully aware of the answers to it. I always use and have always used Firefox, regardless to how much RAM it uses up. I've always found it serves my purpose perfectly and have never needed to use or migrate to another browser. I can't remember the last time I opened and used Internet Exploder. I can't even remember the last time I used Chrome! I do have it installed but haven't opened it in so long it would probably be a bit dusty lol..

    I think you can benchmark both of them though. You can get a RAM meter app. Then run Firefox and open loads of tabs in it. Then see how much RAM and CPU it consumes. Then do the same thing for Chrome, IE and Opera etc and see which one eats the most. Then just go with the one that doesn't. But just because it doesn't use a lot of RAM/CPU, that doesn't necessarily mean it's the best browser for you still.

    The best browser for you would be the one you are most used to / accustomed to using. The one that has served its purpose as a web browser for you and always got the job done for as long as you can remember. That's the best browser IMHO.     Personally I never thought about which browser uses less Ram memory. I always stuck to Chrome to be honest. I sometimes use Firefox and Internet Explorer, but never tried out neither Opera, nor the other browsers you mentioned. It seems that if you place importance on the Ram factor, Opera may be the best option though.

    I was using Mozilla Firefox until recently and I switched to Google Chrome for the first time. I find it is faster and much easier to use. I have no idea which browser uses less RAM though. I've never even heard of Seamonkey browser, it sounds cute LOL

    I also have a post related to this one and it is about Google Chrome. You can check it out here. I have tried some other Internet browsers specially Mozilla Firefox. The only thing I hate about Firefox is that it keeps lagging on my computer and on any computer I install it. It somehow doesn't eat that much of my computer's RAM but I don't know, it just keeps on hanging and sometimes having lag spikes. Probably it was only before. Don't know if it's stable now, I mean it should be I guess.

    My personal experience is that Chrome seems to be using the less RAM. And in case of the Firefox takes a lot of RAM and it seems like making it a bit harder. So using the browser and the RAM is something you can focus as well. I have found out that RAM has it's set of the limits so more than 20 tabs and you can find that it would be surely closing. And it can get the browser go down there as well.

    Some of the time RAM is going to be more if the extensions are more. So pay attention to how many extensions you are using. That's what going to change the way things are there as well. I personally don't think chrome is that bad. Limit tabs and extensions that is good enough.

    Google Chrome has been my preferred browser for both browsing on my laptop as well as doing surfing on phones for it freezes the other account after some minutes of non-usage. So, it helps to manage your data.

    The primary browser in our home desktop is Chrome because we are comfortable with it. But we have a secondary browser in Firefox which is also good enough for our needs. We have excluded the standard browser of Windows because it was giving us a problem with the pop up. With the open tabs or windows, I think Chrome eats more memory because it is noticeable that the computer slows down when there are more than 3 windows or tabs open at the same time.
