Are you trying to chase trends?

I've never really been into trend riding, and I do my thing rather then trying to go with the flow so to speak. - If I notice that one billion people are starting to buy T-shirts tomorrow, then I'm not one of those guys who starts to sell T-shirts. I just stick with my things instead. And I know, perhaps I'm stupid but that's just how I am. I stick to my game instead of trying everything out there.

That being said, I thought I'd share this with you:
Trendspotting

I can't tell if this is of any real use for you people, but perhaps a few of you would appreciate this. - Let's hear what you all have to say about this.

Are you a trend rider?

When selling products like electronics or toys its almost Impossible not to follow trends. Me and my wife where silver power sellers on Ebay for 2 years and during this time we had to always stay on top of the new trends like Frozen, Zootopia, Angry Birds, ETC. I am the guy to follow trends and take advantage of everyone who is getting sucked in. This is one of the more popular ways to make money on ecommerce websites like amazon. If you are trying to drive traffic to your website i would say following trendy keywords and phrases are probably a good idea. I understand where your coming form though sticking to what you know and do best. Sometimes its ok to broaden your horizons a little bit though and dig into trends that people are going crazy about. Thanks for sharing great topic!

Hi Andre

Yes and No. I tried finding some trends and riding them and I got a few small successes which was cool and I really enjoyed it. The traffic surges that came were so cool. That said I was kinda knocking about in the dark because I didn't know how to find a trend or ride it.

Thanks for the article, I am going to check that out and see what I can learn about chasing trends.

I am not into changing my line of business or starting up a whole new website to ride a trend but I am interested in using trends to get some good traffic in. While I think this is not a great long term traffic solution like going for evergreen topics and keywords I do think that if I am writing regular content why not throw in some things that are trending every now and then to get some traffic in right?

I don't follow trends. I make trends! I wish! LOL I'm actually always on the look out for new trends and niches I can jump on the bandwagon on early. I've done it for several big trends and niches in the past and being one of the first on it has paid off quite well. Several that I've jumped on in the past that have nothing to do with SEO what so ever are 3D printers when that first came out and everyone thought it was going to revolutionize the world over night! They are progressing quite a lot and soon we'll be sending 3D printers up to the moon to 3D print buildings. But first what they'll do is create a 3D printer that's capable of printing more 3D printers to get the job done.

The other is when drones started coming out last year or so and they "took off" (pun intended) in a big way and everyone was buying them left right and center. That was quite a lot of fun and I got to try out some drones that I reviewed on my blog with a video. And a little while after that I got into the new coffee body scrub niche since it was so new and everyone was buying it I managed to corner a niche with it. Shortly after though I flipped all the sites. Sold them off to someone else so I could focus and concentrate on other things.

So yeah, that looks like quite a good read and I like how they show you how to dig deep into it to find out whether it's worth trying to get into. Or not! I also see how they are trying to promote that TrendMiner Pro tool as well which can help you speed up the whole process. But it's not needed to find new niches and trends and determine whether they will be worth getting into or not. For that you need to just be a regular user of news and business sites to see when something new pops up that might be the "next big thing" and then use Google Trends tool to help you find out just how popular that thing is right now or is likely to be in the future.

One thing I can't understand is how they are using that filter tool. They have a image of a filter option but that option doesn't exist like that on Google Trends. There's an option to set a category but not as many as that

I'm talking about this image.

Are you trying to chase trends?

But I don't see that option on the actual Google Trends page.

Only this..
Are you trying to chase trends?

Where do you access that filter tool he's showing on G Trends?

OMG Mike I laughed out loud when I read your comment.

Oh the confidence and the attitude is lovely Are you trying to chase trends?

Now if we could make trends wouldn't we be all powerful right? We just decide what we want to say and what we want to be the next trend and our words are gold? Everyone wants to be in on the next thing that Lynne says... it kinda makes me think of Prince George and Kate Middleton....

You know anything that boy wears to a public outing is sold out within hours? Imagine having the power that Kate Middleton has? You can make a boys outfit trend in minutes just by stepping outside with him LOL

Oh yes! I'm always in the look for news and new stuff developing! Not only google trends but news and articles in general, things that are happening in the SEO world, you need to be up to date with everything if you ever want to make it as a professional.

Otherwise, you just getting stale, in a couple of years you'll be so outdated it will be very difficult to retake that lost ground.
Also as Mike said, try becoming so good at what you are doing that you will be the one setting the trends!

There are trends that I chase for I know that they are going to be profitable to me. Also, there are those that I don't really care about when I discover that the profitability is nothing to write home about.

I am a conservative person so don't expect me to go with the tide. When drop shipping was kinda new, some friends were inviting me to be a seller. But I declined because for me it's not an enjoyable work. I would rather continue to write because that's where my heart is. Even with bitcoins as another trend, I am not into it because I don't believe in its stability as a currency.

Following trends can only happen to me if I'm into a business that changes with times then I will chase trends for the success of my business other than that no way.I'm in no competition with anybody so I Try to do things my own way.I don't change my clothes or materials because of trends I go for what I like.
