Ok so I have now finally downloaded the Instagram app to my mobile phone. There have just been too many people over the last few months saying that Instagram rocks and that it is great for getting traffic to your website.
I have not done anything other than download the Instagram app... I was hoping that before I start fiddling around the social media experts here can give me some tips and tricks on how to use Instagram!
So how does Instagram work and does anyone have any cool tricks that I can use to maximize my efforts?

Basically, unless you have lot of nice pictures, photos etc that you can post to it regularly, you may find it hard to get ahead on it. Also most people that use IG are in the younger generation. There are a lot of younger people that use it compared to the age groups of the people that use Facebook for example.
The other thing to think about is that the posts (pictures/photos/videos) that you post to it, can't have links in the posts. You can only have 1 link on IG and that's the one on your profile. The only way you can drive traffic to your site from IG is when people see your picture/photo etc in their timeline (and they'll only see that if they are following you) is by visiting your profile, reading your about me description and then clicking the link that you have to your website.
Unless you have many thousands of real followers (which can take time to build up) and you're posting lots of cool stuff every day. You may find that you don't really get much traffic from it all.
I have several IG accounts. One of my latest ones was for my site I made to promote SEOClerks as an affiliate seoclerk.xyz
The account is https://www.instagram.com/seoclerk/ and I hardly really use it tbf.
All I've done on it is tiled some images to it so they make up one whole image.
You can do that using some Instagram tiles grid app. I can't remember the one I used.
However if you're in a niche that does have a lot of pictures, photos, videos you can share to IG. Then it's still worth using for the extra social presence and brand recognition that it will create for you. Just post regularly like every day at least. Use #hashtags and like, comment on etc other peoples posts and in time people will start doing it for you. But only if they're interested in it.
