    Problems with custom profile background

    Hey, it's Nextant.

    I recently have been trying to get my profile custom background to work, never does.
    Since I am a graphic designer, I design my own.

    I rendered this really cool background in 1080p HD 400x200 and upload it, it's all stretched out and looks terrible.

    So 400x200 doesn't work. What does?

    Hi Nextant,

    That is happening because, 400x200 it's not the right size for that type of image that you are using, 400x200 is the minimum size of image which is allowed to upload to your profile. Try to design again same image but with different resolutions, the header height is 278x , so to get a better result the image height should be 278x. For instance, my photo resolution is 1263*278, and it looks good for me.

    I was able to upload an image with the dimensions of 1920 × 1080 pixels. It's probably best to upload the background and then to apply the text via the "Customize your profile" settings. Otherwise, your image will appear pixilated if you didn't render it correctly.

    You could follow procoder's advice, and see if an image with the dimensions 1263 × 278 works if you're not wanting to apply the text afterwards. From a SEO standpoint you may want to include this text because your profile could essentially rank higher in the search engines since the site uses h1 attribute.

    The way I did it (although my current one is not the one I worked on and just a quick one I knocked up), was to take a print screen of your profile. Then on a new layer, create the background image you want to use so it's about the same size. Then just upload that. Problems with custom profile background

    Good idea Mike! I also struggled getting my profile pictures just right. I changed the dimensions a couple of times, the actual resolution but I still haven't managed to get in perfectly filled in.

    I also noticed that the profile background looks different on other resolution PCs. For example, on my work computer (a MAC) my profile background looks even more stretch out then it
    dose on my personal laptop.
    I'm not really a designer, what is the solution for different resolutions? Basically to be responsive....

    Are you saving as vector image (PNG) or a raster image (GIF/JPG)? Vector will look good on any size screen/resolution as wont pixilate when stretched or squished as much as a raster image will. It depends on the complexity of the image but PNG should help for that reason. Problems with custom profile background

    Oh I can't remember what I did with my image size but I did have problems making it not stretched out. There was a recommended image size and when I used that size my image looked awful so I thought it was something stupid that I did...

    I fiddled around and just changed it until it looked right. It took me about 10 tries to get it looking ok. It is still not how I wanted it to look but not too bad.

    I don't remember the resolution I used but it came out fine the first time and that's great because I am not any good at this kind of stuff. I loved the fact that you can write something that gets superimposed on the image. It made it look better.
