If you have some skills or expertise in marketing, brand building and sales generation then you should think about bringing those talents online as a digital marketer.
I currently do this online and didn't have a marketing background, but it took some time to become semi-successful and get enough clients to support my monthly expenses. This isn't a quick job to get in to so don't quit your day job if you start going this route 
One thing that is crucial is that you need to be in touch with your clients on a weekly basis so that they know you're staying on top of their work. Keeping in touch with your clients is also good to build a business friendship and they will trust you more and more each month after they begin to see a traffic increase and in turn a sales increase
You can set this up so that you do all of the work or you can outsource this 100% and let even more qualified people do the work while you take the credit lol. There are plenty of people out there running their own marketing businesses and outsourcing it 100% so they can focus on different ventures of just be with their family more.
The amount you can make from this type of business depends on how many big ticket clients you can get to sign up. Some companies pay $50,000 a month to outsource their marketing work and that could be one of your clients
You can do this job 100% online and that means you can be anywhere in the world as long as you have a laptop and an internet connection

You're bang on the money though in that you don't really need a lot of skills. Just a willingness to earn and a hunger to be successful. Nobody that ever got successful from doing digital marketing ever done so by not being hungry for it. If they did it was pure luck!
But there are so many things one can do in digital marketing. And all the things there are to do can be learned as well. Either from doing it yourself and gaining self-experience in it. Or from learning from other people. The good thing about this industry is that there's a wealth of information out there that you can learn from. By studying and reading industry experts blogs, to just watching YouTube videos.
You can really learn quite a lot quite quickly and go from there. You can find something you might enjoy doing (and who doesn't enjoy doing something that pays them for that?). Something that other people are already doing and winning at and then try to imitate their success. Try to imitate what they do. You might hit a few snags and a few pot holes in the road on your journey. Unless you've read up about those first and know how to avoid them. But you learn from doing and you can then grow from something simple and get bigger and bigger.
It's crazy but true. Most of the big, really big and successful blogs and sites in digital marketing today started from a very small and very basic blog/site. They kept working at it, kept adding great content to it and getting new backlinks and contacts until they turned into a very big and successful and thriving affiliate marketing blog.
It's like I always say - there's always room for one more at the top!
